Introduction
IndiaKonnekt was established in 2011 with the aim of bringing affordable, high
quality, and specialized medical treatment to Kenyans belonging to the low and
low-middle income economic groups.
After preliminary research we found that specialized Medicare i.e secondary and
tertiary medical care is unaffordable and out of reach for many Kenyans. Also
capacity is an issue- many Kenyans are in waiting lines for months to gain access
to life saving treatment and hence end up waiting till it’s too late! We have
therefore partnered with healthcare providers in India to serve patients' needs.
India offers not only specialized and quality expert care but also affordability
which is within reach for Kenyan patients.
IndiaKonnekt aims at achieving excellent and affordable healthcare for Kenyans
through the organization of medical camps, and connecting patients with medical
professionals and institutions in India and in facilitating sending patients for
treatment/surgery to these destinations.
IndiaKonnekt is also in the field of Education Consulting, where our aim is capacity
and competency building. There is a huge shortfall for specialized and skilled
labor. We intend to make up this shortfall by educating and training Kenyans in
areas where the demand is the most.

Market Research
Health services in Kenya are provided through a network of over 4,700 health
facilities countrywide, with the public sector system accounting for about 51% of
these facilities. The best quality of care is found at national referral hospitals,
which represent the apex of the healthcare system pyramid and provide
diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services. The two public national
referral hospitals are Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi and Moi Referral and
Teaching Hospital in Eldoret.
In 2004 there were 16 physicians and 128 nurses per 100,000 of the population.
Among those Kenyans who are ill and do not choose to seek care, 44% were
hindered by cost. Another 18% were hindered by the long distance to the nearest
health facility.
Kenya also experiences a huge unmet need for healthcare and training of
healthcare workers. Needs are unmet both in quantitative and qualitative terms.

3. The shortage of sufficient quality tertiary education in the medical field
contributes significantly to the poor health of most Kenyans. Healthcare services
are unequally distributed; with rural areas being underserved compared to urban
areas. The below table represents figures of Doctor to Patient ratio in Kenya:
Provinces Total Number Doctor/Patient
of Doctors
Central 190 1:20,715
Coast 39 1:51,155
Eastern 147 1:33,446
N.Eastern 9 1:120,823
Nyanza 165 1:28,569
Rift Valley 197 1:36,481
Western 83 1:39,554

Therefore, though the primary health care is rendered well and within reach of
most Citizens, there is a lag in the secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare
delivery system involving inordinate delays or unaffordable costs.
There is a gap which needs to be urgently filled to make this facility within the
reach of as many Kenyans as possible. IndiaKonnekt was started with this aim and
looks to find solutions to healthcare deficiencies .It is also committed to its long
term goals of making good healthcare available to as many Kenyans as possible in
Kenya itself.
IndiaKonnekt therefore looks to any organization that will partner it to achieve its
objectives.
How we propose working with you:
IndiaKonnekt looks at building partnerships with Kenyan healthcare
providers and the Indian experts to augment and make available the higher
level secondary and tertiary medical care to as many patients who may
require this facility at the most affordable costs. This initiative may look at
transfer of professional knowledge, training, and technical excellence, thus
3
4. benefiting the primary referring physicians who will gain more credibility
and enduring patient clientele.
The partnerships will result in effective and continued transfer of
technology, knowledge and training to Kenyan professionals, on an ongoing
basis.
The resulting co-operation and networking will result in Kenyans gaining
confidence to start and develop their own model of healthcare delivery to
their patients in Kenya itself.
With communication through teleconferencing and internet, patient
diagnosis and proposed treatment protocols may be discussed with the
treating Physicians in India, with more complete and meaningful delivery of
treatment, thereby ensuring best patient satisfaction.
Service and satisfaction of patients underlines all activities of IndiaKonnekt
that constantly drives initiatives that will transfer technology and technical
excellence in healthcare to Kenyans and make it available at their own
