Conference overview
The cold chain market in Asia is set to explode in the short and medium
term with 40-50% growth rates over the next two years, due to demand
for perishable goods, increasing wealth distribution and the development
of e-commerce.
Rising middle class incomes in Asia result in increasing demand and are
providing new opportunities for the cold chain logistics sector, covering all
stages between production and consumption.
However there is a big ‘but’. At least 30 percent of temperature sensitive
cargoes are being wasted and have to be destroyed due to insufficient
infrastructure, differences in culture and communication problems.
Due to poor handling in the process of transportation, storage and
retailing, losses in China alone are estimated to be in the region of
RMB100 billion (USD16 billion).
There is a critical need for a better dialogue between the logistics sector
and perishable producers, exporters and importers. Without greater open-
mindedness and mutual trust on both sides this will not work: customers
need more effective and reliable solutions and the logistics sector needs to
be able to maintain and create better value. How can this be achieved?
For a start food safety needs to be improved and the creation of world-
class delivery standards already established in Europe, the US and some
other Asia countries, such as Japan, will need to be adopted across Asia.
A new forum
Running concurrently with the Asia Fruit Logistica Exhibition, this brand new
one-day event will focus on regional perishable supply chain issues in Asia.
Cool Logistics has become an internationally recognized platform for
connecting perishable logistics and cold chain experts with producers and
shippers of commodities that require temperature control.
Designed as a regional event to complement Cool Logistics Global in
Europe and other biennial regional events such as Cool Logistics Africa
and Cool Logistics Americas, Cool Logistics Asia will be held in Hong
Kong, on the doorstep of the world’s largest potential cold chain market.

Rising middle class incomes in Asia result in increasing demand and are providing new opportunities for the cold chain logistics sector, covering all stages between production and consumption. However there is a big ‘but’. At least 30 percent of temperature sensitive cargoes are being wasted and have to be destroyed due to insufficient infrastructure, differences in culture and communication problems. Due to poor handling in the process of transportation, storage and retailing, losses in China alone are estimated to be in the region of RMB100 billion (USD16 billion). There is a critical need for a better dialogue between the logistics sector and perishable producers, exporters and importers. Without greater open- mindedness and mutual trust on both sides this will not work: customers need more effective and reliable solutions and the logistics sector needs to be able to maintain and create better value. How can this be achieved? For a start food safety needs to be improved and the creation of world- class delivery standards already established in Europe, the US and some other Asia countries, such as Japan, will need to be adopted across Asia. A new forum Running concurrently with the Asia Fruit Logistica Exhibition, this brand new one-day event will focus on regional perishable supply chain issues in Asia. Cool Logistics has become an internationally recognized platform for connecting perishable logistics and cold chain experts with producers and shippers of commodities that require temperature control. Designed as a regional event to complement Cool Logistics Global in Europe and other biennial regional events such as Cool Logistics Africa and Cool Logistics Americas, Cool Logistics Asia will be held in Hong Kong, on the doorstep of the world’s largest potential cold chain market. 1st Asia C onference 1st Asia C onference
