2. Z-Line: The way in which a text is read – in the shape of a z. Texts are constructed based on
the theory that people ill scan images from left to right and, to a lesser, top to bottom.
Rule of Thirds: The rule of thirds is a concept in video and film production in which the frame
is divided into in to nine imaginary sections. This creates reference points which act as guides
for framing the i-++mage.
Slogans: A short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising.
Serif: Formal text style
Superlatives: Expressing the highest or a very high degree of a quality (e.g. bravest, most
fiercely)
Binary Oppositions: Binary Oppositions where texts are organised around set of opposite
values such as good and evil, light or dark.
Copy: Text or message portion f an advertisement including the headline, sub-headline, body,
copy and the advertiser information.
Signifier: Any material thing that signifies e.g. words on a page, a facial expression, an image.
Key Words:
