FIRST robotics team 904
FIRST robotics team 904 from GRPS Innovation Central
High School expressed their thanks for Gill’s unwavering
financial support. They competed from Escanaba to the
World Championship event in St. Louis and finished 30th
out of 75 in their division. Team 904 was ranked in the top
third of teams at the championship.
This past year, the team built two robots so that they could
practice driving skills while still tweaking the software and
hardware on the other robot. They support a coding club
at Innovation Central high school that teaches software skills to students, invested in a welding system
and some new computers for software development and robot control.
In addition to Gill’s continued financial support, team 904 can always use volunteers from our
manufacturing, engineering, tool & die, and IT departments to help with the program and the robot
build and competition. Contact Louise Wilson, lead teacher, Robotics at louise@louisewilson.net if you
are interested in donating some of your expertise and time.

Gill Selected to Present at Nissan’s
Supplier Best Practice Event
Nissan hosts a quarterly “Supplier Best Practice” meeting
where suppliers are invited to both participate and present.
The meeting is attended by over 100+ suppliers of Nissan’s
supply base and is held at their vehicle assembly plant in
Smyrna, TN. Top management from Nissan quality attended
the event. Three to four suppliers are selected by Nissan to
present their best practice at each event. Gill had the honor
of being selected for the most recent Best Practice meeting
held on June 13, 2016. We were one of four suppliers’ that
presented at this event.
Gill presented “Advanced Defect Detection and Escape
Prevention”. In the second-half of 2015, our Richmond
plant was experiencing several quality issues, particularly
with Nissan. 36% of all issues were attributed to missing
components manufactured on single-hit welders. The team
identified and implemented vision systems in an effort to eliminate the missing component failure mode. The
implementation started in February, 2016 and was completed (on all but 1 welder) in May, 2016. Preliminary
data suggests that the vision system is effective. We are continuing to monitor data to validate long term
effectiveness.
Mike Hawkins, director of operations, Adam Walker, technical services manager and Vijay Parthasarathy,
corporate quality manager represented Gill at the meeting. Vijay explained the process through a PowerPoint
presentation for the audience, and Adam received the award for implementation on behalf of the Richmond
team. Glenn Corbin, Director of Quality for Nissan, presented
the award.
The Richmond team did a great job in planning and
implementing the vision system with Adam’s efforts
instrumental for success.

Gill Training News
News
Training news.
Throughout June and July, all Michigan managers and
supervisors completed interview training. Rob Strate of The
Employer’s Association, facilitated the training. Participants
learned useful selection and questioning techniques, how to
develop structured interview formatting and how to conduct
effective job interviews. This training is a requirement for
anyone involved in interviewing. We are excited to provide this
training at our KY and GA facilities next month!
Last week, on July 14th, all interns and co-ops at our Michigan
facilities enjoyed a meet and greet and tour. The hard-working
students got a chance to relax a little, get to know one another
and take a tour of our Bond, Alpine, Plainfield, Electronics and
GRMA facilities. They shared fun stories of their experiences at
Gill and learned a lot of new things about our company! We are
thankful to have them on our team!
