During a 2015 internship with industrial designer Michael Young in Hong Kong, Alec Pollard worked on projects for three clients:
1) He helped Chinese faucet company Jougor develop new product lines, conducting research, branding, and designing their website and packaging.
2) For battery company Gold Peak, he designed two flashlights including a headlamp and a pet tracker light.
3) With furniture company Coalesse, he contributed ideas and CAD models during the concept phase of a new office furniture line.

Design Intern
In 2015 I did a internship in Hong Kong with Michael Young, an internationally renowned industrial
designer. This opportunity exposed me to many facets of the design process and industry.
During my time with Michael Young I worked with three clients on various projects:
Jougor a newly formed Chinese faucet company engaged Michael Young to develop two ranges of
tapware. Within this project I had responsibility for a number tasks starting with market research where
I collected data on potential competitors which I compiled and presented to the client. I then moved
onto branding and promotion including, wire framing and design of their web presence, assembling
their product catalog and the internal and external design of all their packaging for taps, shower heads
and bathroom accessories, which have since gone to market. I Visited Jougor’s factory in China with
Michael Young where I presented the design and function of their website which has now gone live at
www.jougor.com Finally worked on the design and organization of a number trade show booths, used
to launch the brand.
Gold Peak Batteries (GP), an international battery company engaged Michael Young to design 5 different
types of handheld lighting products. Within this project I was tasked with designing two torches. The
first was a high quality head torch that I took from the ideation stage all the way through to finalization.
The second was a light for pets which included a service element that helped people track their
animals through the use of low energy Bluetooth forming a crowd network that can be viewed through
a smartphone app.
Coalesse, a large international furniture company engaged Michael Young to design a range of commercial
office furniture with a focus on the integration of technology and use of materials. Within this project I
focused on the ideation phase involving sketching and CAD of potential designs that were pinned up
and discussed in team meetings.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE ACHIEVEMENTS
23 year old industrial designer with an honors degree from RMIT, spent my formative years in Hong
Kong before returning to Melbourne in 2003. I still maintain a strong connection with Hong Kong
through regular visits. When I’m not designing I’m indulging my other creative outlets including cooking
and photography.
Vivid Finalist - 2014
In 2014 my Pagoda Coffee Table which I designed and built was selected as a finalist for the Vivid de-
sign competition which is part of the annual decor and design show held in Melbourne. Vogue Living
Australia picked it as one of their favorites from the exhibition which was posted on their website.

9. the homepage
During my time at Michael Young, I was given the task
to design and layout Jougor’s website. I started with the
homepage and the overall website aesthetic. To begin with,
key titles had to be put into the main navigation menu.
The titles consisted of simple and easy-to-read texts that
would provide a drop-down menu for quick and convenient
navigation to site specific options. A ‘search’ bar was also
integrated for users who do not want to browse but know
exactlywhatinformationtheywant.Additionally,socialmedia
links were included to bolster the Jougor’s web presence.
The homepage was given a slideshow banner to help the
company promote new products, upcoming events or the
latest company news. Below this, three quick links were
added to direct users to the company’s most visited sites.

10. about us
An ‘about us’ page was created to provide users with
extensive details about Jougor and its philosophy.
The company’s philosophy was broken down into four
components. When clicked on, the image would enlarge
and provide the user with insight into that particular
component. A menu on the left-hand side provides
users with information about Jougor’s pursuit of purity,
collaborations and certifications.

11. products
The ‘product’ page is the most important, as it showcases
the company’s full product range. My thoughts around
designing this page were to make it as simple as possible for
users to browse in the way they want. This would allow them
to break up their browsing into different products, ranges
and functions. Once the user has selected their preferred
product, I found it was vital to make all the key information
accessible, along with a range of different images that could
be viewed in a large slideshow format as well as an easy to
download product manual.
