2. Overview
Teaching Strategies GOLD is a guide for teaching and learning used
for birth through kindergarten. It is divided into 10 different
developmental areas with 38 different objectives. The objectives
take a more in-depth look at what matters most for children’s
success. They also help provide detailed information that teachers
need in order to make accurate assessment decisions.
3. Credible Source #1
• The Gold assessment strategy is
found to have and continue to yield
highly reliable scores on both the
classical and Rasch reliability
statistics. There is also strong
statistical evidence that teachers are
able to use the rating scales as
developmental progressions to place
children along a continuum of growth
and development.
4. Credible Source #2
• Articles talk about that to ensure
that all children regardless of
culture, language, or disabilities
are assessed fairly, scientifically-
informed assessment measures are
used and needed. Teaching
Strategies Gold is designed to
measure a child's progress in the
major developmental and content
areas for children ages birth
through kindergarten.
5. Credible Source #3
• A sample that was used to evaluate
the validity and reliability
of Teaching Strategies GOLD
retained a total of 10,963 children.
This extremely diverse group of
children received educational
services in 618 different programs
at 2,525 early childhood centers
located throughout the United
States.
6. Analysis
Although two of my sources had similar authors, they all
three talked about how much Teaching Strategies is used
and how effective it is. They talk about the reliability and
the different ways it can be used. One source talked more
about how much these assessment tools are needed to keep
track of how children are growing and developing.
7. Connections
We have not covered much assessment tools right now but I
know in my previous classes we have talked about the many
different observation and assessment tools and how to use
them. We have talked about what they are used for and when
they are most effective. Without assessments, we are not as
engaged with the children and what they know.
8. Conclusions
Overall, I was upset to not find many specific details and
statistics of the use of Teaching Strategies Gold but I also
understand that it is hard to gather that information. It seems
clear that this tool is a very successful and reliable assessment
strategy since it has reached so many different schools. We
also use this tool at my place of work and it is helps me see
where children are at and what I need to work on with them
more.
9. Communication with Families
This is a very good tool to show parents where
there child is and what they may need to work
more on. It is also a great way to show them
the progression their child has made over a
certain time period in their class. This tool is
something you can use during conferences to
show them the different observations you
recorded and where it may fall on the levels.
