1. What I think about while speaking; thinking while speaking?
Am I just like the other guy that preceded me? What does my audience really want to
hear? Have you ever been in a conference where there is a symposium taking place? Not really a
symposium but rather, speakers taking their turn. Because no real transition has taken place, no
hey it’s me getting ready to speak now, in the form of a hook.
Let’s face it every speaking engagement does not have to present itself as entertainment
but, informational speakers should at least have a hook. Otherwise you could have done the
research yourself. So, why should the opportunity to share this topic be extended to me?
When I find myself spewing out three or more consecutive lines; my mind searches for
extra content. Maybe a gesture or two then deliver a well-rounded what if? Research has
extended the opportunity to interject an assortment of topics. However, will it transition
smoothly that’s the hook, now I am forced to link these points impromptu?
Are audiences looking for that sudden energy transformation? Yes they are. They arrived
to hear me speak, the content is extra. Can I deliver? Most are astute and will link your sentences
with your thesis as logic. Now they want an extended thought on the subject. Something I can
clarify exceptionally maybe an additional point not shared.
Expressions experiences and research can all this be briefly stated in the form of a brand
statement, hook, tag line make its mark and be remembered? Yes, I am thinking about all of this
while staying concise.
Wow can I do all of this and continue speaking? When I was younger my father brought
me in the house and showed me a vast array of things he wanted done. My exclamation, you
want me to do all of this? His answer, you better.
