Nutrition
BFD prioritizes the prevention of
malnutrition as it reduces human
suffering, where it is the most effective
path to long-lasting results.
Nutrition
10
Nutrition
Nutrition
When children under five and pregnant
and lactating women (PLW) do suffer
from acute malnutrition, which is
inadequate nutrition, leading to rapid
weight loss, or wasting —BFD provides
treatment and links it to long-term
care to prevent them from becoming
malnourished again.
Health
BFD works in several governorates
of Yemen to promote health,
keep Yemen safe, and serve the
vulnerable. Furthermore, BFD aims
to ensure that every governorate
has utter health coverage to
protect patients from health
emergencies, and provide further
people with better health and well-
being. For health coverage, BFD
focuses on primary and secondary
health care to improve access to
quality essential services.
For health emergencies, BFD
prepares for emergencies by
identifying, mitigating, and
managing risks.
13
Health 15
Moreover, BFD detects and responds to acute health emergencies, and supports
the delivery of essential health services in fragile settings.
WASH
WASH
Over two-thirds of Yemenis (17.8 million people) require
support to meet their basic WaSH needs, including
12.6 million who are in acute need. Inadequate access
to WaSH services is a major driver of communicable
disease outbreaks and acute malnutrition. Therefore,
BFD (Building Foundation for Development) has been
working in WaSH Sector to reach as well as help the most
vulnerable communities in various rural and urban areas
of Yemen. Most importantly, it has succeeded in achieving
significant positive impacts on the local communities,
especially among IDPs, most affected groups by the
current situation, and impoverished families who cannot
even afford to buy 5 liters of clean water or a loaf of bread.
18
WASH 19
All in All, BFD has been intervening in 6
Governorates of Yemen: (Amran, Sana’a,
Al Jawf, Sa’ada, Ma’irb, and Al Hudaydah),
in which many water, sanitation, and solar
energy projects have been implemented;
whereas, others are still in full swing.
Moreover, C4D (Communication for
Development) activities, as well as,
desludging & backfilling cesspits have
been conducted in every project; and
what is more, HKs & CFs (Hygiene Kits and
CeramicFilters)havebeendistributedtothe
vulnerable populations, residing in areas
fall of different diseases such as cholera
and Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD). These
projects also included clean-up campaigns;
along the same lines, training courses for
WaSH Committees were conducted on
how to operate, manage, and maintain the
projects. Not only does BFD aim to carry
out projects, but it also aims to maintain
and sustain them for good.
WASH
Education
The Education Cluster estimates that
4.7 million children need education
assistance, including 3.7 million in
acute need. This includes roughly 2
millionchildrenwhoareoutofschool.
Girls are more likely to lose out on
education, with 36 per cent out of
school compared to 24 per cent of
boys. Moreover, Education Cluster
data confirms that an estimated 2000
schools are unfit for use due to the
conflict. However, all children have
the right to go to school and learn,
regardless of who they are, where
they live, or how much money their
family has. Quality learning requires a
safe, friendly environment, qualified
and motivated teachers, and
instruction in languages students
can understand. It also requires that
learning outcomes be monitored
and feedback into instruction.
22 Education
Education
23
So, BFD aims to help maintain basic education services, particularly
in areas where schools are damaged, closed, or unable to fully
operate because of budget, payroll, and other conflict-related
constraints. Thus, BFD takes serious steps towards renovating the
education system mainly and directly for displaced boys, girls,
and most vulnerable children across many prioritized areas in
Yemen. Moreover, BFD ensures that schools remain open through
many programs, such as schools’ rehabilitation, WASH facilities
in schools, provision of new schools’ desks or repair of schools’
desks, provision of schools› supplies and basic learning materials,
provision of schools› textbooks, and the establishment of learning
spaces. Besides, BFD focuses on strengthening Education staff
including teachers by building their capacity through pieces of
training on education in emergencies (EiE).
24 Education
Shelter/NIF
Shelter/NFI
26
Shelter/NFI
27
Regarding the shelter program,
BFD aims to provide safe shelter
for internally displaced persons by
providing healthy living conditions
with privacy and dignity to groups
of people and families. This occurs
in various forms such as camps,
temporary or permanent housing.
Other components of the program
include the distribution of non-
food items for daily life such as
cooking equipment and shelter
kits, for humanitarian purposes. In
the same vein, BFD has successfully
implemented all different lines of
Shelter/NFI activities. Therefore, all
related donors have classified BFD
as the only local partner that has
successfully implemented all different
lines of activities in Shelter/NFI, such as;
Shelter/NFI
28
Emergency short-term solutions i.e. Distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs) & Emergency
Shelter Kits (ESKs) via all types of modalities; In-Kind, Cash, and Vouchers.
long term solutions i.e. Houses’ rehabilitation.
Additionally, BFD is considered to be one of the Shelter/NFI›s most effective partners in
the national and subnational levels.

Camp Coordination and
Camp Management (CCCM)
BFD works to support internally displaced persons
(IDPs) in some of the most severely displacement-
affected governorates in Yemen, through a wide
range of interventions and activities, among those,
Camp Coordination and Camp Management
(CCCM) programming.
30
Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM)
Through CCCM, BFD aims to improve the quality of life, safety, and dignity
of displaced people, ensuring the best possible protection and assistance
environments, in accordance with international standards, and through multi-
sectoral approaches. Besides, BFD has successfully contributed concrete and
upgraded management in coordination activities (CCCM/SMC) for 20% of the
total verified IDPs hosting sites in Yemen.
Protection
As reports of GBV continue to increase,
survivors need multi-sectoral GBV services.
BFD has a methodology that all people
affected or threatened in Yemen by a
humanitarian crisis have their rights fully
respected in accordance with international law
and their protection assured by relevant and
timely actions through all phases of the crisis
and beyond. To enhance more protection, BFD
works to improve the predictability, leadership,
effectiveness, and accountability of response to
ensure that protection is central to humanitarian
action. Not only does BFD work in one sector
to strengthen protection, but it also works in all
sectors to enhance real protection. Furthermore,
BFD applies the four protection principles:
32
Enhance the safety, dignity, and rights
of people, and avoid exposing them to
harm.
Ensure people’s access to assistance
according to need and without
discrimination.
31 Assist people to recover from the physical
and psychological effects of threatened
or actual violence, coercion, or deliberate
deprivation.
Help people claim their rights.

Rapid Response Mechanism
BFD aims to provide immediate life-
savingemergencyassistancetofamilies
who are newly displaced and in hard to
reach areas and to destitute returnees.
For that purpose, BFD has proven
its full diligence and humanitarian
commitment within one of the
toughest and hardest emergency relief
environmental aspects towards most
vulnerable people in an acute need for
immediate and most critical life-saving
emergency supplies across areas are
known to be very strong front lines and
conflict zones. In the same vein, BFD is
still implementing RRM activities with
fully taken coordination steps, in which
all the donors consider BFD as the main
partner, covering those in need with
hardworking and highly qualified team
onset to cover the immediate needs
for those vulnerable newly displaced,
on the move, in hard-to-reach areas or

FSL
Food Security and livelihoods (FSL)
BFD food security and livelihoods
programs tackle the root causes of hunger
by addressing problems of production,
access, and income. Encompassing a
wide array of activities customized to
meet a community’s specific needs,
our programs are designed to bolster
agricultural production, jumpstart
local market activity, support micro-
enterprise initiatives, food assistance for
assets; moreover, enhance a vulnerable
community’s access to sustainable
sources of food and income. BFD also
works to strengthen local communities
and experts towards creating resilience,
promoting inclusive governance, gender
equality, and women’s voice as BFD looks
at the four pillars of food security:
1. Access 2. Availability 3. Utilization 4.
Stability.
BFD is also one of the Food Security
and Agriculture Cluster Members (FSAC)
in both, the national and sub-national
levels that has influential participated in
Food Security and livelihoods (FSL)
42
preparing annual Humanitarian Response Plans for Food Security and
Agriculture.
Emergency Employment and
Community Rehabilitation
Building Foundation for Development (BFD) has contributed
to achieving the goals of sustainable human development
by enhancing the technical and administrative capabilities
of local communities in the targeted areas. Moreover, BFD
through its projects has adopted several local sub-grant
implementation partners for the cause of building local
community and civil society organizations capacities, the
thing that contributed to enhancing their programmatic
system and financial management experience & confidence.
Thus, strong local communities and civil society organizations
had been created with full capacity to join and partner with
more donors to improve essential services for humanitarian
action in an inclusive range.
Emergency Employment and Community Rehabilitation
Youth Development and
Capacity Building
Youth Development and Capacity Building
BFD has originated on a developmental drive led by community initiatives
to contribute to the development process that results in life support for
each citizen that can match the basic
humanitarian standards. Achieving such
a goal through fighting poverty and
unemployment for our youth by providing
them with the necessary skills and making
opportunities accessible to them. BFD has
an active enrollment of volunteers that
build their capacity through the merge of
voluntary work and active projects and
programs which enable and qualify them to
apply and move into bigger opportunities.
Adopting youth innovation programs that
prepare and qualify them to have an active
role in their communities to inflict their
knowledge onto their society. Yearly, BFD
hosts no less than 40 fresh universities and
institutes graduates from different majors
and incorporates them in the labor market
giving them the proper orientation and
confidence boost they require in order to
succeed. Moreover, BFD makes every effort
to create a sustainable environment in each
of the implemented programs by placing
great emphasis on building the capacity
of the local community and providing in-
service pieces of training of technicians
working in the targeted areas.

  • 11. BFD prioritizes the prevention of malnutrition as it reduces human suffering, where it is the most effective path to long-lasting results. Nutrition 10
  • 13. Nutrition When children under five and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) do suffer from acute malnutrition, which is inadequate nutrition, leading to rapid weight loss, or wasting —BFD provides treatment and links it to long-term care to prevent them from becoming malnourished again.
  • 14. Health BFD works in several governorates of Yemen to promote health, keep Yemen safe, and serve the vulnerable. Furthermore, BFD aims to ensure that every governorate has utter health coverage to protect patients from health emergencies, and provide further people with better health and well- being. For health coverage, BFD focuses on primary and secondary health care to improve access to quality essential services. For health emergencies, BFD prepares for emergencies by identifying, mitigating, and managing risks. 13
  • 15.
  • 16. Health 15 Moreover, BFD detects and responds to acute health emergencies, and supports the delivery of essential health services in fragile settings.
  • 17.
  • 18. WASH
  • 19. WASH Over two-thirds of Yemenis (17.8 million people) require support to meet their basic WaSH needs, including 12.6 million who are in acute need. Inadequate access to WaSH services is a major driver of communicable disease outbreaks and acute malnutrition. Therefore, BFD (Building Foundation for Development) has been working in WaSH Sector to reach as well as help the most vulnerable communities in various rural and urban areas of Yemen. Most importantly, it has succeeded in achieving significant positive impacts on the local communities, especially among IDPs, most affected groups by the current situation, and impoverished families who cannot even afford to buy 5 liters of clean water or a loaf of bread. 18
  • 20. WASH 19 All in All, BFD has been intervening in 6 Governorates of Yemen: (Amran, Sana’a, Al Jawf, Sa’ada, Ma’irb, and Al Hudaydah), in which many water, sanitation, and solar energy projects have been implemented; whereas, others are still in full swing. Moreover, C4D (Communication for Development) activities, as well as, desludging & backfilling cesspits have been conducted in every project; and what is more, HKs & CFs (Hygiene Kits and CeramicFilters)havebeendistributedtothe vulnerable populations, residing in areas fall of different diseases such as cholera and Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD). These projects also included clean-up campaigns; along the same lines, training courses for WaSH Committees were conducted on how to operate, manage, and maintain the projects. Not only does BFD aim to carry out projects, but it also aims to maintain and sustain them for good.
  • 21. WASH
  • 23. The Education Cluster estimates that 4.7 million children need education assistance, including 3.7 million in acute need. This includes roughly 2 millionchildrenwhoareoutofschool. Girls are more likely to lose out on education, with 36 per cent out of school compared to 24 per cent of boys. Moreover, Education Cluster data confirms that an estimated 2000 schools are unfit for use due to the conflict. However, all children have the right to go to school and learn, regardless of who they are, where they live, or how much money their family has. Quality learning requires a safe, friendly environment, qualified and motivated teachers, and instruction in languages students can understand. It also requires that learning outcomes be monitored and feedback into instruction. 22 Education
  • 24. Education 23 So, BFD aims to help maintain basic education services, particularly in areas where schools are damaged, closed, or unable to fully operate because of budget, payroll, and other conflict-related constraints. Thus, BFD takes serious steps towards renovating the education system mainly and directly for displaced boys, girls, and most vulnerable children across many prioritized areas in Yemen. Moreover, BFD ensures that schools remain open through many programs, such as schools’ rehabilitation, WASH facilities in schools, provision of new schools’ desks or repair of schools’ desks, provision of schools› supplies and basic learning materials, provision of schools› textbooks, and the establishment of learning spaces. Besides, BFD focuses on strengthening Education staff including teachers by building their capacity through pieces of training on education in emergencies (EiE).
  • 28. Shelter/NFI 27 Regarding the shelter program, BFD aims to provide safe shelter for internally displaced persons by providing healthy living conditions with privacy and dignity to groups of people and families. This occurs in various forms such as camps, temporary or permanent housing. Other components of the program include the distribution of non- food items for daily life such as cooking equipment and shelter kits, for humanitarian purposes. In the same vein, BFD has successfully implemented all different lines of Shelter/NFI activities. Therefore, all related donors have classified BFD as the only local partner that has successfully implemented all different lines of activities in Shelter/NFI, such as;
  • 29. Shelter/NFI 28 Emergency short-term solutions i.e. Distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs) & Emergency Shelter Kits (ESKs) via all types of modalities; In-Kind, Cash, and Vouchers. long term solutions i.e. Houses’ rehabilitation. Additionally, BFD is considered to be one of the Shelter/NFI›s most effective partners in the national and subnational levels. 1 2
  • 30. Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) BFD works to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) in some of the most severely displacement- affected governorates in Yemen, through a wide range of interventions and activities, among those, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) programming.
  • 31. 30 Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) Through CCCM, BFD aims to improve the quality of life, safety, and dignity of displaced people, ensuring the best possible protection and assistance environments, in accordance with international standards, and through multi- sectoral approaches. Besides, BFD has successfully contributed concrete and upgraded management in coordination activities (CCCM/SMC) for 20% of the total verified IDPs hosting sites in Yemen.
  • 32. Protection As reports of GBV continue to increase, survivors need multi-sectoral GBV services. BFD has a methodology that all people affected or threatened in Yemen by a humanitarian crisis have their rights fully
  • 33. respected in accordance with international law and their protection assured by relevant and timely actions through all phases of the crisis and beyond. To enhance more protection, BFD works to improve the predictability, leadership, effectiveness, and accountability of response to ensure that protection is central to humanitarian action. Not only does BFD work in one sector to strengthen protection, but it also works in all sectors to enhance real protection. Furthermore, BFD applies the four protection principles: 32
  • 34. Enhance the safety, dignity, and rights of people, and avoid exposing them to harm. Ensure people’s access to assistance according to need and without discrimination. 31 Assist people to recover from the physical and psychological effects of threatened or actual violence, coercion, or deliberate deprivation. Help people claim their rights. 1 3 2 4

For that purpose, BFD has proven its full diligence and humanitarian commitment within one of the toughest and hardest emergency relief environmental aspects towards most vulnerable people in an acute need for immediate and most critical life-saving emergency supplies across areas are known to be very strong front lines and conflict zones. In the same vein, BFD is still implementing RRM activities with fully taken coordination steps, in which all the donors consider BFD as the main partner, covering those in need with hardworking and highly qualified team onset to cover the immediate needs for those vulnerable newly displaced, on the move, in hard-to-reach areas or

Encompassing a wide array of activities customized to meet a community’s specific needs, our programs are designed to bolster agricultural production, jumpstart local market activity, support micro- enterprise initiatives, food assistance for assets; moreover, enhance a vulnerable community’s access to sustainable sources of food and income. BFD also works to strengthen local communities and experts towards creating resilience, promoting inclusive governance, gender equality, and women’s voice as BFD looks at the four pillars of food security: 1. Access 2. Availability 3. Utilization 4. Stability. BFD is also one of the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster Members (FSAC) in both, the national and sub-national levels that has influential participated in

  • 43. Food Security and livelihoods (FSL) 42 preparing annual Humanitarian Response Plans for Food Security and Agriculture.
  • 45. Building Foundation for Development (BFD) has contributed to achieving the goals of sustainable human development by enhancing the technical and administrative capabilities of local communities in the targeted areas. Moreover, BFD through its projects has adopted several local sub-grant implementation partners for the cause of building local community and civil society organizations capacities, the thing that contributed to enhancing their programmatic system and financial management experience & confidence. Thus, strong local communities and civil society organizations had been created with full capacity to join and partner with more donors to improve essential services for humanitarian action in an inclusive range.
