The document provides tips from Anthony Hines on how to get an advantage in the job search process. It discusses how Hines was able to find a new job within zero days of leaving his previous position by treating his search like a full-time job. He shares the strategies and resources he used, including networking on LinkedIn, customizing his resume, setting up job alerts on company sites, and utilizing sites like Twitter and Glassdoor. Hines hopes sharing his experience will help others navigate unemployment and find new opportunities.
2. Who Am I….I am a hardworking guy who, like many others, found himself out of work
during the economic downturn in 2010. After a long battle of wrong turns, job search
strategies that led to no where, and dead end leads, I decided to take a more strategic
approach to my job search. Like anything else in life, I needed to treat my search like a
full-time job and create a plan that would allow me to stand out above the competition.
This came in especially handy as I was in transition again in 2017. Basically, I just used
the tips that I have shared with others and was out of work a total of ZERO days. Yes, I
got a job offer the day after my last day at my previous job. Let me show you how I did it
so you too can have a quicker landing than you would have had without my tips.
Why Am I Sharing What Helped Me…because I quickly realized that to handle an event
like that is to focus on what you can control and share the experience to help others. I
believe that an experience not shared is a lost opportunity in life, and that smart people
learn from their mistakes and smarter people learn from other people’s experiences.
Plus, I told myself that once I figured this out I would share it with others so that they
too could navigate the world of unemployment. In these chapters, I show you how I did
it so that you will have the confidence to make it through the process. I hope that this
presentation helps you to get your next great job.

resume contacts to look at it and get back to you. That way you will get free
feedback as to how your resume looks and flows. Go for it because without a
great resume, you have no chance of getting any job much less a great job. The
turnaround is quick and the service is stellar.

the upcoming slides to receive the most value from your read.
5. The next group of slides will discuss various websites that I
have come across to help in all the aspects of the job search
process. Some are well-known and obvious and others are not.
I never assume that someone knows a site just because I do or it
is perceived as popular. I never take anything for granted.
I will tell you the tip or idea and let you know why I like it to
help you in dealing with the process.
Remember, I am by no means a professional and never claim to
be. I am just giving you things as I see them to help you to see
through the ‘fog’ and get ahead in your career.
I hope my ideas help you out and help me to end unemployment
one person at a time.
6. Linkedin – Job Seeker Premium – www.Linkedin.com
This is a paid service that gives big discounts to the military
and provides many tools such as Inmail and job application
preferences to members.
When someone posts a job and you apply, you can see the
person check your profile. That transparency is huge to a job
seeker as it shows you that someone at least checked out your
qualifications which is all you can ask for.
Plus, there is a member only group and lots of useful options
to help job seekers. The people who complain about this
service just are not using it properly. Plus, the job posted are
new and once you set an alert are emailed to you on a
scheduled basis which is a huge advantage for job seekers. I
recommend this service highly.
7. Twitter.com – www.twitter.com
Think Twitter is just for tweeting and news
updates? Not true.
Twitter has tons and tons and tons of job search
help, job listings and more job information. Plus,
it can’t hurt you in an interview if someone asks
you how did you find out about the job and you
say that you found it on Twitter.
8. Simplyhired.com – www.simplyhired.com
A very popular job listing site with lots of jobs
always being posted there. Many industries are
represented and the listings are deep and
detailed. This is a site that the stay-at-home job
seekers live on as they apply and apply and apply.
You may get called or you may not but the site has
lots of info and does have some regional pay
information available which is always useful.
Always keep your eye on listings here.
9. Job Alerts – Set them up on company sites. –
Go to every company site career page that you want to work for
and set up job alerts based on your own skills and priorities.
That way the jobs come to you. You can never get enough jobs
sent TO you.
Jobs you didn’t have to find that you can apply for the second that
they are available. This is gold and so many people don’t take the
time to set these up.
Hey, they can’t hurt can they and you can always adjust them after
they are set up and there is no limit to how many you set up either.
Huge advantage for job seekers who take the time to set them up
in my eyes.
10. Glassdoor.com. -- www.glassdoor.com
This site is where you can find out what a
company is really like as employees go out
and comment on their companies in an
unfiltered manner. This site is not for the
faint of heart. Believe me, people let it all
hang out here so you better be ready but the
info and opinions are new and relevant.
11. Your professional organization website.
People always forget to look here but there
are usually jobs posted and lots of people
willing to help the unemployed. Lots of job
search info and some pay information on
some professional sites. You pay your dues
for a reason so use those resources. You owe
it to yourself.
12. USAJOBS.gov --- www.usajobs.gov
This is your one place to go to apply for most federal
government jobs. All kinds of government jobs exist
here and with many, you do not even have to have a
college degree. Pay scales are different based on
region and the process from application to
interview may be slower than normal but it is the
one place to go and look for fed jobs.
Plus, there is a class available in many locations that
teaches you how to apply on this site to get noticed.
If you cn, take that class as it helps you to get an
interview and then you can take it from there.
13. Salary.com -- www.salary.com
Lots of pay related information here. I am
pretty sure that it requires a membership to
get most of the juicy information but in my
eyes it is money well spent because you can
never have enough good information to help
you make the proper negotiation related
decisions when in the job search.
14. The Federal Government Job Related pages.
www.fedscope.opm.gov/employment.asp is
good one to start with. This has lots of labor
statistics and a great way to get trends in the
marketplace. Remember the data is from
previous months bSut its better to have this
data instead of no data. earound the Federal
government site for more pages. Raw stats
with no bias to them which is never bad to
have.
15. Ladders.com – www.ladders.com
High level job listings are here and they
always have new listings. You pay for access
here and some people have done well on
this site. Lots of industries listed here as
well. Check it out and see what you think.
16. The website of the recruiters that contact
you.
Some people forget that the recruiters that
contact you have a whole website full of
jobs posted on them.
On every recruiter contact that you make,
always check their site and check it often as
jobs come and go there.
17. Your Transitional company’s website.
Did your company give you transitional services that
you took advantage of but are now expired?
Well if they did, continue to check that site for job
postings even after you have left. Many of these
companies have giant alumni networks that you can
become a part of that can help you get into companies.
Stay in touch with this network as every person in it has
been through what you have been through and will
probably help you out if called.
18. Your college job services page.
You paid your college a lot of money when
you were there. Just because you are not
someone who has just graduated does not
mean you cannot use their services. Use
them for job postings and contacts or job
search help or anything else you can think
of. That is what they are there for.
19. Facebook.com -- www.Facebook.com
More and more companies are listing their jobs on
facebook because they are finding out that many job
seekers go there naturally. This is growing more and
more every day so keep an eye on it. Also,
individually you may want to let your network know
that you are looking via a post. Hey, it doesn’t hurt
to ask or to let people know. You never know who
will need your skills or know of a position that is a
match for you. Don’t discount this option. Never
assume anything about this job search process. It is
very unique overall and individually.
20. Craigslist.com – www.Craigslist.com
Don’t laugh. There are many jobs listed on
this site within each city. The ads are cheap
and companies know that people go out
here for various reasons. It is always a
place for you to look for jobs, especially
good consulting jobs.
21. Freelancer.com– www.Freelancer.com
Freelancing is hot and getting hotter every
day. This way you work when you want to
work. Many people once they try this, never
get a full time job again. You may want to
look into this as an option for yourself.
Get working under your rules. Consider
freelancing.
22. I want to reiterate that I am not a professional and only
providing you with things I did that helped me out
during my own job search.
I do these presentations because the job search process
has a lot to do with attitude and outlook. That’s on you.
Excuses are for losers. Be a winner and take charge. You
can do it because you have done it before I bet.
Make sure you individualize any all of the information
provided on this or any of my presentations. My ideas
are to guide you and help you to understand concepts.
23. Come join the LinkedIn group that I recently
created. It is called the Anthony Hines Job
Search Survival Group. It’s a unique group
because the people in it really support and
help each other to get their next opportunity.
Just log into LinkedIn.com, go to groups and
join the above named group. People really
seem to find it useful and I check in often as
well. Come join today.
24. If you want to quickly increase your LinkedIn
connection total, including many recruiters, go to
http://www.TopLinked.com/a/?a=182790 .
This paid service will make your connection total
explode. I caution that if you are not ready for a
substantial amount of LinkedIn connection requests
especially from recruiters, you may not want to sign
up and believe me it doesn’t stop. They keep coming.
Now if you want that type of traffic and want many
more contacts guaranteed, please use the above link
for quick service.
25. Got great professional skills and experience
that you can share with a company that needs
help? You may want to consider Maven. This
company has a list of many requests for
information or experience that maybe you
could answer and pick up some cash on the
side while doing it. Plus, you can tell your
friends about it and make some cash if they
signup . Check out this link for more
information.
