Representation is the way in which key sections of society are presented by
media and the institutions that broadcast them on TV.
A range of representation include examples of :
> Gender
> Age
> Ethnicity
> Regional and National Identity.
Stereotyping is key as language can also be used to represent these
examples, as some texts employ subject­specific lexis.

3. AUDIENCE
There are two types of audience:
Active audience: The audience who engages with the
media. They are actively involved, often
unconsciously, in making sense of the message within
their personal and social contexts.
Passive audience: An audience that merely observes
and event rather than actively responding it.

5. INSTI
-TUTION
A company or organisation
that is accountable for a
media text. This could be
through marketing,
production, distribution or
regulation.

6. Language
The text and way of speech applied to film. An
accent can be applied to a character for it to
identify with a specific group/society.
Vocabulary that is typically used by them will
be applied throughout the movie.

7. Ideologies
A world view, system of values, attitudes and
beliefs which an individual, group or society
holds to be true or important; these are shared by
a culture or society about how that society should
function and can be applied to film to engage the
audience.

8. NARRATIVE
The story that is told from the
movie.

9. GENRE
Genre is the classification of any media texts into
types or categories. Each genre can be identified
by a range of elements that allow the audience to
recognise the genre and what to expect from
it. These elements are commonly known as
conventions.
