2. Katie loves clothes. She wishes she could have all the designer clothes she wants.
Unfortunately, she can’t; she has two brothers and three sisters, and her parents
cannot afford to buy all their children designer clothes.
Katie has a few friends that have some designer jeans. Her friends let her borrow the
jeans, even though this is against her parents’ wishes. Her parents felt that Katie
should not borrow them in case something were to happen to them. In that case, they
would need to purchase an outfit to replace the damaged one.
One day on the way home from school, Katie tripped and fell on her knees. She tore
holes in both knees of the designer jeans she had borrowed from her friend, Julie.
Katie was crying, not only because she had injured her knees, but because the new
jeans were ruined and they weren’t even hers.

SITUATION 2
5. What are the person’s
choices?
a) Tell her parents.
b) Tell Julie.
c) Sew the designer jeans.
d) Find a way to replace the designer jeans.
e) Lie about the jeans being already damaged before she
borrowed.
6. Gather information:
What information should the person gather
that would be helpful to know before
making a decision?
a) The value of the designer jeans.
b) The possible reaction of Julie upon knowing that her
designer jeans got damaged.
c) The possible reaction of her parents.
d) The extent of damage to the designer jeans.
7. Consider the outcome. What
would be the results of the
decision?
a) Julie and Katie’s friendship will be over.
b) Katie will be scolded by her parents.
c) Julie forgives Katie.
d) Katie cannot borrow things from Julie anymore.
e) Katie learned her lesson that if she borrows
something from other people, she should be
careful and responsible.
8. Make the decision. What
should the person do?
Katie should be honest and tell both Julie and her
parents. Katie should be honest with them and she
must show her genuineness in telling them about what
really happened and she must sincerely apologize for
not being careful enough with the designer jeans that
she borrowed from Julie.
9. Evaluate your decision. Why do you
think this is the best decision possible?
Owing about your mistakes is the right thing to do.
Lying about damaging the designer jeans would only
aggravate the situation. Lying might be a way of
“playing safe”, but this will only lead to a series of
conflicts. Furthermore, being honest would be the best
decision possible for Katie because no matter how
upset her parents and Julie might be, they would still
have some trust in Katie.
10. Evaluate your decision. Why do you
think this is the best decision possible?
Once trust is broken, it can never be fully regained and
things will not be the same anymore and thus, being
honest is the best decision possible in this case.
Nevertheless, Katie should still be willingly ready to
accept the possible consequences that she might face
and she should learn from it as this will help her
become a better person, friend, and daughter in the
future.
