The student planned a healthy living program for stressed college freshmen with three other health education students. They conducted a needs assessment of freshmen to establish a goal and objectives for the program. Through research on past successful programs, the students designed and implemented their own program to address the stress, anxiety, and feelings of being overwhelmed common among freshmen.

For Area II: Plan Health Education, I planned a healthy living program for Freshmen in
college who were suffering from stress, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed. I planned this
program with the help of three other Health Education students. We used our needs
assessment, that was done on the Freshmen population, in order to make an overall goal for
our program and also to establish 5-7 measurable objectives to help us achieve that goal.
After doing research on the different successful programs that have been done in the past, we
used that information to design and help implement our own program.

The larger social problem we found within this group, who completed our needs assessment, was
stress, specifically stress due to school work, financial situations, and relationships. According to
the American College Health Association National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA),
mental health is an area of college’s students life that is often dismissed.
