Programme Proposal Community Video – Stockport
County
Date 30/1/17 Director Adam Paterson
Rationale
Product: Community video for Stockport County FC titled – Helping The
Hatters.
Target audience:
• Age
• Gender
• Social Class
• Lifestyle Grouping
The age for this product would be directed mainly towards
adults and older football fans, this would be because of the main
purpose of the video being for the fans to understand of the
positive works behind the scenes that goes on.
I also feel that there would be a market for all of Stockport, not
just Stockport County fans, This is because as a community, they
will feel that the whole group are doing this to better their
town, and therefore add an element of pride to them.
It will also appeal to a niche market of non-league football fans,
which feel that they can connect with this, despite being from a
completely different town. It’s a really niche market that will hit
home for all involved.
What does research tell you:
• Promotable benefit of product
• What difference to user
My research tells me that nothing like this has been made for
Stockport County, there had been some non-league style films
made including them, but this level of knowledge hasn’t been
taken from that video, therefore I feel that there is a territory
not entered previously, and this will overall create a new
market. To talk about the benefits of the Supporters trust, I feel
that there will be a promotion of the club and a promotion of
the supporters trust.
Program message:
• Slogan/tag line
• Links to further promotion
The function of this program is that it is used to emphasise and
show the work that the Help The Hatters trust does. It will help
raise the awareness of this group and make the local community
understand the work that these unpaid volunteers create.
It will also send a message to Stockport County’s fans to help
them understand about what happens at Edgeley Park when the
footballs not on, this is important because it allows for a behind
the scenes insight into how the club is maintained, and its
history in how its kept the club up.
How long will it last: Around 5-7 Minutes
Treatment
Synopsis:
• What is the overall plot
• What happens in each scene
• Where is each scene set
The overall plot of the program will be to inform an audience
about the work that goes on behind the scenes with the Help
The Hatters group. This will be led through interviews, which
reduces the need for a presenter, and make the person who is
talking be the main driving force of the narrative. This is

important because it allows for a person with a pedigree to get
the message across. This will also be important for those
connected with the Stockport County Football Club as they will
most likely identify who is talking.
The questions I will ask on the day will be questions surrounding
the past, present and future of the Hatters trust.
I will also use B-Roll shots to cover over my questions to make
this sound like one continuous conversation, this is important
because it will allow the information to flow and for the
storyline narrative to unfold.
I will also use archive footage from old games to show the
development of the team aswell as to reflect on old moments in
the clubs history that is important for the nostalgia factor. This
will create the hook for old fans of the club.
Setting:
• Past/Present/Future
• Urban/Rural
• Prosperous/Neglected
The setting will be in the ground of the club, known as Edgeley
Park; this will anchor the video to be a video about non-league
football and grassroots football in general. This will be important
because the mice en scene will have connotations about these
grounds, a proper football club in a hard working class
community.
Narrative structure:
• Linear/Non linear
• Single/Multi strand
• Open/Closed narrative
The narrative structure of the program will follow the highs and
lows in an emotional journey of this football club and how this
help the hatters group have helped contribute to their reprise.
This is important because it will keep a viewer hooked
throughout the program and eager to know the solutions to
previous problems. We will follow the interviews of many
people from the group and how they have impacted their help
on the club and the group.
Genre:
• Sitcom
• Serious drama
• Reality TV
• Parody
• Cinematic
• Animation
• Action
• Fantasy
The genre of the film will be a community style factual program,
which features the basic conventions of the factual program
genre such as interviews, Relevant B-Roll to cut over the
questions and also fill in any areas where the visuals are too
similar.
Tone:
• Serious
• Light
• Comedic
The tone of this will be serious, as these people have invested
their time and money into their football club. Unpaid volunteers
are used here to do this through the love of the game. So
therefore to document a video on their work we would be doing
them justice for all their hard work.
Pace:
• Fast - to build excitement
• Slow - to provide depth
The pace of this will be slow to provide depth in what they are
saying and how they have done what they did, they are able to
explain their points and are able to tell their impact of the
community.

Camera Technique:
• Tripod/Dolly/Steadicam
• Hand Held
• How will you use camera moves
• What kind of camera angles will
you use
The Camera will be on a tripod throughout the interview, with
no movement, this is so that there is no camera shake at all and
the interviewee is framed at all times correctly. B Roll will be a
mixture of Handheld and Tripod.
I will use camera movement sparingly, keeping in mind that as I
don’t have a gimbal or stabliser, It will be hard to keep tracking
movement still, by having it shake in little parts.
The camera angles will be close up, action shots of the workers
clearing up around the ground, close ups of action shots on
match days and various shots around the ground.
Look:
• Colour/Black & White
• High Definition/Low Definition
• Studio/Rostrum
• On location
The look of the video will be in 1080p High Definition, with clear
images in focus with nice colours and well-lit lighting and tones.
How you will use lighting:
• Available Light
• Brightly lit
• Mood lit
• Cold
• Warm
I will use natural lighting along with some small, LED battery
powered lights on tripods. This will be a well-lit video, with no
dark overcast shadows on parts of the face where the actor is in
frame.
Sound:
• Sync-sound
• Voiceover
• Music
• Sound effects
The diegetic sound will be sound recorded from a clip on
microphone connected to an external mic, this will be to provide
clear audio for the speaker without any background or ambient
sound.
The background will be a subtle and quiet background to bind
the clips together without being too distracting.
Scene Transitions:
• Cut between scenes
• Cross-fade scenes
• Fade to black
• Use captions
A Majority of scene transitions will be straight cuts, this is to aid
the videos continuity on and not look too over-edited with uses
of fades and wipes.
End Caption/Ident:
• Graphics
• Image
• Sound
• Voiceover
The Start Indent will feature the title of the program, and the
end caption will end with credits to all involved with production.
