32 Years Coatings Expertise Offered
1. Zwolle, Wednesday, December 07, 2016
Dear Sir, Madam,
Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Ad Hofland. At the risk of sounding vain I
do consider myself to be well known in the field of
resins and coatings. Personal details can be found in
my resume which is attached.
A more elaborate CV including my triple P (patents, papers and presentations) can be
obtained at request.
I have been working for 32 years for DSM Resins in the field of oleochemistry and
polycondensates. These concepts are ideally combined with biobased economy, innovation
and sustainability in one word: alkyds. I have initiated and contributed to the development of
alkyd emulsions (turnover approx. 10 ktonnes/annum) and high solids alkyds (turnover
approx. 4 ktonnes/annum). For confidentiality reasons I cannot reveal the margins, but they
are impressive.
Unfortunately as a result of the strategy of my (almost former) employer to reconsider these
values, we see ourselves forced to part.
Fortunately it is for this reason I am in a position to offer this 32 years of experience and
networking to any party that does believe in alkyd resins, be it in the form of high solids,
waterborne or traditionally solvent based. In contrast to common belief even the latter have a
lower carbon footprint than most systems being assumed sustainable just because they are
water based.
My special interests include carbon footprint, biobased (or circular) economy, sustainability,
biodegradability and all other subjects of similar nature. And last but not least mitigation of all
confusion that is generated around them, especially if this is done so for economic reasons.
My most recent research interest was related to preparing binders that, when used in
coatings, inevitably end up in the environment (fertilizer, seed and greenhouse coatings).
If this letter arouses your interest, either as a supplier, resin producer (I am at liberty to do
so) or as a customer I would be more than pleased to elaborate in person.
Kind regards,
Ad Hofland.
