Log
1. Log
6th September 2010
Today was the introduction to festival and understanding the nature of festival. In our group we have to discuss and brainstorm on what festival is and the purpose of it. After 50minutes we then went to the library to research on what festival is and the purpose of it (6.1). The format must be a PowerPoint.
13th September 2010
Today lesson, we had a visitor who was involve in the ‘Lady Fest’ festival (Susan O’Shea). She explained to us about what festival is and gave us an insight of what ‘Lady Fest’ is and how she got involve with it. We then have to discuss positive and negative matters with their resolution. After that we then have to make a brainstorm on what we think will be a good festival and why.
15th September 2010
In today lesson we discuss about the theme of our festival and what we want it to be about and making our own logo to wear on the day of the festival. As a class we decided that our theme should be based on ‘Media’. We then have to come up with ideas on the name for our festival but unfortunately the many names that was brought up wasn’t appropriate or didn’t relate to our theme.
And also we have to choose what group we want to be in. each group will have a different job rows in other for the festival to be planned properly and appropriately. I choose to be in the performing art group who are in charge of the performances that will be performed at the festival and what music will be played in the background.
20th September 2010
In today lesson we started working on the worksheets. We were doing 6.2 which are about planning a festival and thinking about what we want in our festival such as: equipment, workshops, health and safety issues etc.
27th September 2010
Today lesson was dedicated in coming up with a name for our festival. There was a lot of argument and inappropriateness involved but fortunately we finally came up with a name as a class which is ‘Central Fest’.
29th September 2010
In today lesson we had a visitor who is a professional photographer- Ollie Harrop-. At the beginning of the lesson Ollie had a couple of pictures from different photographer to be looked at and analysed for their excellence or lack of it. Looking and analysing the photos made us realise that there is a lot to be considered to be able to produce a successful photograph. The class was then split into group of 3 with 5 students in each group. We had to practise taking pictures that will be seen as a professional one. Each group must have a stylist, a reflector, a photographer, and a model and location director. Each student must have a go at each job.
The reason for this exercise is to be able to have a skill that can be used at the festival. Since our theme is ‘Media’ and photography is part of media, it is important for us to know the skills to take a good picture.
4th October 2010
In today lesson we were in our festival group and we were sharing ideas on what we think will be a successful performance in the festival. We were also looking at case study to make us understand more on what festival is all about.
11th October 2010
We visited the College Terrance of Central Foundation Girl’s School which is our venue for the festival. We had to look at the space provided to o us as we are only using the ground floor and the classrooms. We have to look at the entrance and discuss about the facilities such as toilets that are available.
Today lesson was all about understanding the space provided and making adjustments.
18th October 2010
In today lesson, my group-performing art- had a call for submission. We discuss about how to find the performances for the festival and how to promote it. We decided to have an audition or just simply ask bands and dancers that to perform on the day. We discuss about going to assembly and announcing about the festival.
Also Nikki Shaill visited our class today; she is part of ‘Lady Fest’ on the marketing side. She showed us and gave us some few ideas on how we can promote our festival. She showed us some of her promotion when working on a low budget this is called Guerrilla Marketing.
Guerrilla marketing is for people working on low budget. The campaign is all about making things yourself and putting in around your local area so that people can be curious on what is going on.
We tried this method around the school premises.
1st November 2010
Today lesson was all about making deadline for what needed to be completed and what need to be improved.
8th November 2010
Today lesson was dedicated to making our logos and posters for the day of the festival.
12th November 2010
We visited the Girls Fawkes at the South bank Centre, this trip was for us to experience and have a feel on how to promote a festival and run a festival.
19th November 2010
Today, I and some of the other girl interview the potential volunteers for the festival. We divided everyone in groups of 6/5. We gave them a scenario on what could happen on the day of the festival and we had to analyse how they will deal with the different types of problem and how they will approach the visitors.
20th November 2010
Today was the festival day.
22nd November 2010
Today lesson was all about writing a review on the festival day and writing about what went well and how we contribute to the making on the festival.
