A wild fire that occurs in bush (forests, scrub, woodland)
Mainly seen in Australia, New Zealand & New Caledonia.
Common in summer and early autumn.
Eucalyptus trees are generally the most affected victims.
Generally slow moving but high heat output.
Favorable conditions that initiate a bushfire –
$2.5 billion loss for last 40 years.
Australian catastrophes – 250 fatalities + 5000 homes.
Huge habitat loss, yet some flora benefit from these fires.
o Causes – Lightning strikes, campfires, deliberate, smoking, children.
o Environment –Fuel moisture, Temperature, RH, Ignition source.

First reported in 1897-1898 : 6,40,000 acres spread.
Followed by 1970s,1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2019-20.
Mainly seen in eastern and western coast.
Climate change, Global Warming, Indian Ocean Dipole etc.
Implications of June 2019- ongoing season:
New South Wales, Victoria worst affected.
2680 homes lost.
33 deaths.
1.25 billion wild animals killed.
46.03 million acres burned.
