The desalination plant in Barka, constructed by Abengoa, has the capacity to desalinate 45,000 m3 of water per day through reverse osmosis technology, and is located in the Gulf of Oman, in the north-east of the country.

plant,whichispartoftheOPWPplanto
guaranteetheavailabilityofwaterresourcesin
thecountry.
ThiswasthefirstwaterprojectthatAbengoa
builtinMiddleEast,whereitcurrentlyhas
projectswithacapacitytodesalinatearound
2,000,000m3
/day.Oneofthemisthelargest
desalinationplantwithreverseosmosis
technologyintheworld,locatedintheenergy
andwatergenerationcomplexofTaweelah,in
UnitedArabEmirates,withaproductionUnitedArabEmirates,withaproduction
capacityof909,000m3
/day.
