The frontal sinuses are air-filled pockets located within the frontal bone of the skull. They are positioned behind the superciliary arches and between the skull and face bones. The frontal sinuses function to lighten the skull, humidify air, and protect underlying structures. Frontal sinusitis is inflammation of the frontal sinuses which can occur when mucus drainage is obstructed, leading to infection or swelling. Complications of frontal sinusitis include epidural abscess, meningitis, orbital cellulitis, or subdural abscess due to the sinuses' proximity to the brain and eyes.
