A topic that we always hear and sparks a lot of complex debate. But at the end of the day, it all lead to simple concept :
"Do not believe the people of the Book, nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe in Allah and whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is revealed to you' ".
Aim of this presentation is to explain to you in simple and straight forward way.

Why Muslims say the Bible is corrupt (in simple and respectful way)
1. Why Muslims Say That
The Current Holy Bible
is Corrupt?
In Simple, Easy and
Respectful Explanations
2. ⢠If you are a Christian, do note that
â I respect your religion
â Offending your religion is not my intention
⢠But rather explaining to you guys the âwhyâ?
⢠Thus please look at the points in intellectual /
academic point of view, not emotional point
of view.
3. ⢠For me this issue can be explained in FIVE
simple points and simple common sense.
⢠And we donât need to examine the whole
Quran or Holy Bible to explain this.
4. Basic 1â the concept of Holy Book
between Muslims and Christians
5. THIS IS IMPORTANT,
THUS PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS
CONCEPT CAREFULLY
BECAUSE HOW MUSLIMS AND
CHRISTIANS DEFINE A HOLY BOOK IS
MARKEDLY DIFFERENT
6. ⢠Christians Holy bible is
â Books in a book.
â For Christians, the books were inspired by God
and written by multiple human beings â prophets,
companions, apostles, unknown writers etc
⢠So for Muslims viewers, to make it simple,
Holy Bible is combination of âWords from
Godâ + âChristianâs Sunnah Booksâ +
autobiographies + letters etc
7. ⢠Quran in the other hand for Muslims is
â 100% words from God, and Prophet Muhammad
was chosen to recite those words to mankind
â No alteration from Prophet Muhammad or other
people
⢠Prophetâs Muhammad daily acts, his
interpretation, daily speech, personal life
stories etc are not Quran, and they are called
Sunnah ("example / the way of the prophetâ)
8. ⢠So for Christian viewers, to make it simple, the
Quran / holy book for Muslims
is the original non modified text from God,
and Prophet Muhammad is the one who read
it to you.
⢠So basically it is Godâs âspeechâ.
10. ⢠To make it simple, I made a table for you guys
to understand what we meant by / define
âcorruptâ on the next slide.
11. Book
% Words of God
% Human writings /
alterations /
commentary
Status Holy Book
A 100% 0% Not corrupt YES
B 100% Commentary /
translation on the
side notes
Not corrupt YES but the
commentary /
translation is
not part of the
Holy Book
C 90% 10% Corrupt NO
D 99.999999% 0.000001% Corrupt NO
E 100% but
translated to other
language
Since it is translated,
the translation will
be considered as
100% human
alteration
Corrupt NO
12. ⢠When we say corrupt,
âWe donât simply mean that the whole Bible
or gospel is 100% lies / false
âIt means :
⢠There are parts of the scriptures that
have been altered, modified
⢠contained missing and modified words,
incorrect interpretations etc
13. ⢠The analogy is like a corrupted hard disk.
Some parts are still holding the exact original
data and working well.
⢠While the corrupted data, will give you
inaccessible, wrong or missing data.
⢠Leading to inaccurate data.
14. ⢠Due to these issues, we Muslims cannot give
100% trust on your Holy Bible but at the same
time we canât give 0% trust on your bible too.
This concept has been explained by Prophet
Muhammad.
â Narrated Abu Huraira: "The people of the Book used
to read the Torah in Hebrew and then explain it in
Arabic to the Muslims. Allah's Apostle said (to the
Muslims). 'Do not believe the people of the Book,
nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe in Allah and
whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is revealed
to you.â (Sunnah - Translation of Sahih Al- Bukhari)
⢠*But in religion we need 100% trust and 0%
corruption, thatâs why God sent the Quran.
15. ⢠This âcorruptionâ is not specifically referring to current
bible / gospels but to the other gospels as well (gnostic,
unknown or lost gospels etc)
⢠You need to understand that previously there were many
gospels circulating around.
⢠Because there were too many gospels out there
confusing the early Christians - that's why Council of
Laodicea (AD 363) concluded that only the Old Testament
and the twenty-seven books of the New Testament were
to be read in the churches. All other gospels were
rejected.
⢠The Councils of Hippo (AD 393) and Carthage (AD 397)
reaffirmed the same twenty-seven books as
authoritative.
16. ⢠Although Jesus or his apostles did not attend
the Council of Laodicea, Christians believe it is
God who is actually the one who determined
which books belonged in the Bible, not the
council.
17. ⢠With that two basic concepts in mind, letâs
start elaborating the 5 major points.
18. Point No 1 - We Muslims believe in
Gospel according to Jesus
19. ⢠In Islam, Injeel means Gospel.
⢠Gospel means Good news.
20. âThen We caused Our messengers to follow in
their footsteps; and We caused Jesus, son of
Mary, to follow, and gave him the Gospel, and
placed compassion and mercy in the hearts of
those who followed himâ. âQuran, surah 57
(Al-Hadid), verse 27
⢠In Quran, Jesus was given Gospel [Gospel
according to Jesus]
21. ⢠Matthew 9:35 - New International Version
Jesus went through all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the
good news* of the kingdom and healing every
disease and sickness.
*Good news = Gospel
⢠So in the Bible, Jesus went to towns and villages
and taught Gospel to the people.
22. ⢠So which Gospel did Jesus used at that time
when he went to the towns and villages?
⢠Is it Gospel according to Mark, Matthew, Luke,
John, Thomas, Marcion, Basilides, Mary,
Judas, the Egyptians, Philip, Perfection or
other gospels?
â Obviously Jesus used non of these
23. ⢠Thus when we Muslims say that we believe in
Injeel, it means we believe in and
acknowledge the truth of Gospel according to
Jesus [divine 100% revelations from God].
⢠NOT gospel according to Mark, Matthew, Luke,
John, Thomas, Marcion, Basilides, Mary,
Judas, the Egyptians, Philip, Perfection and
other gospels.
24. Point No 2 â Mixing with word of
God = corrupt
25. ⢠The Christians need to understand that, in Islam,
the Quranic verses were revealed to prophet
Muhammad only when God wanted to reveal to
him (Godâs will) â via middle âpersonâ, angel
Gabriel
⢠Not under prophet Muhammadâs will - as it is
Godâs speech, not prophet Muhammadâs speech.
⢠If God at that time didnât want to âspeakâ -> there
would be no revelation or new verses
26. ⢠Say, [O Muhammad], "The Pure Spirit (Gabriel)
has brought it down from your Lord in truth to
make firm those who believe and as guidance
and good tidings to the Muslims."
â Quran 16:103
27. The same concept is in the Bible
⢠Peter 1:18-21 New International Version (NIV)
20 Above all, you must understand that no
prophecy of Scripture came about by the
prophetâs own interpretation of things. 21 For
prophecy never had its origin in the human
will, but prophets, though human, spoke from
God as they were carried along by the Holy
Spirit.
28. ⢠And, in Islam, regardless if you are :
â Companions or friends of the prophet
â Wife, daughter or son of the prophet
â OR prophet Muhammad himself
⢠He / she / they canât mix (alter, modify, add or
remove) the verses with they own words as
they like;
⢠because those are Godâs wordsâ and they have
no authority over Him.
29. ⢠If your mother told you, "go to Burger King"
⢠We agree that "go to Burger King" are the words
of your mother.
⢠But we donât accept these as the words of your
mother:
â according to Jack, at 3pm, William's mother told him
"go to Burger King". So he went despite it was raining
cats and dogs.
30. ⢠Christians believe that red texts in bible are
the exact spoken words from Jesus.
⢠So letâs assume that way.
31. If you look at the structure of the current Holy Bible,
for example, John 2 (KJV):
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his
disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of
money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and
the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the
tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, âTake these things hence; make not my Father's
house an house of merchandiseâ.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me
up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that
thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, âDestroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it
up.â
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up
in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said
this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
32. ⢠You will see that around 80% of the words are
according to John.
⢠Thus it is mix of 80% words from John (a
human being) + 20% words from Jesus.
⢠Thus when they are not 100% words from God
= corrupted in Islam point of view.
33. Point no 3 â translated word of
God is not word of God
34. ⢠If William said "Hi"(English).
⢠I cannot say William said âkonichiwaâ
(Japanese).
⢠âHiâ is the 100% original word according to
William.
⢠âKonichiwaâ is not because it is the
translation.
35. ⢠This is important because when you translate a
word or sentence, you may get the same
meaning and sentence structure but not all the
time.
⢠At certain words or sentences you may not able
to get the same accurate meaning and structure.
â Leading to inaccurate interpretation
â Which could lead to inaccurate understanding
⢠As in every language, every words or dialects has
its own sociocultural understanding value.
36. Thatâs why there are many translations of the Bible (so
as the Quran), because they canât get 100% exact
accurate translation from Greek to English
37. ⢠And in Quran, God emphasized that Quran is in Arabic
language
Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book.
Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an that you
might understand.
We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what
We have revealed to you of this Qur'an although you were,
before it, among the unaware.
⢠Quran 12:1-3
⢠Thus translated Quran cannot be equal to the original Quran /
Word of God
38. ⢠Thatâs why translated Quran in English, Japanese,
Chinese, Indian etc cannot be considered as the
real Quran.
⢠Yes you can read the translations, but you canât
say those translations are the exact word of God
because the verses in Quran were revealed to
Prophet Muhammad, and Prophet Muhammad
recited those verses in Arabic (and to be specific,
in Quraish dialect).
⢠Thatâs why when we put translations of the
Quran, we preferably need to quote from where
we get those verses from.
39. ⢠Jesus (was a Jew) and his disciples primarily
spoke Aramaic (Jewish Palestinian Aramaic).
⢠But gospels according to Mark, Mathew, Luke
and John were found in Greek, and until now
never have been found copies of those
gospels in Aramaic.
40. ⢠Since Jesus didnât speak Greek, gospels
according to Mark, Mathew, Luke and John
(which were found in Greek) will never be
100% exact words from Jesus or God.
⢠Thus in Islam, these Gospels couldnât be
considered as originals and thus, corrupt (in
translation point of view)
41. ⢠Theoretically, even if there is a copy of Gospel
according to Jesus today in English;
⢠without the original version (Jewish
Palestinian Aramaic)
⢠the translated Gospel is still considered as
corrupt.
42. ⢠If you are using KJV Bible Version, it means
that the words of Jesus has been translated at
least 2 times.
⢠Aramaic to Greek. Greek to English.
⢠(1) If translating from original source can
cause some degree of lost in meanings, how
about translating from translation?
43. ⢠(2) Besides this clearly shows that Gospel
being taught by Jesus (gospel according to
Jesus) at his time is different from the Gospels
that we are having today.
⢠Since we are using the different Gospels from
Jesus, can we say for sure that we are
following the exact teaching of Jesus?
44. Point no 4 â can you trust
âunknown writersâ?
45. ⢠If you walk around and found a letter saying
that you will get USD1 Million if you do this
and that â but there is no source from where
the letter is from
â Would you follow the orders?
â Would you gamble your soul for this letter?
46. ⢠Quran is from one source, prophet
Muhammad.
⢠Some of the books in Holy bible on the other
hand :
â Written by unknown writers
â Presumably written by this and that person
47. ⢠Muslims have no trouble to believe in Quran
because we believe in Prophet Muhammadâs
accountability â based on His stories, Sunnah etc.
⢠Besides he couldnât read or write, and didnât
know Jewish language (thus unable to learn from
the Jews and compose the Quran by himself).
⢠And being a middle-late age man who couldnât
read or write, but able to memorize and recite
the exact same 6,236 verses in 114 chapters
without mistake; is indeed a miracle.
⢠And not only that, the Quranic verses were
revealed in non-chronological orders, adding
more complexities.
48. ⢠On the other hand, we feel hard to trust
current Holy Bible because it is impossible to
know and trust the sources â due to scarcity
of documentation on the personal life of the
writers.
49. Point no 5 â Not 100% Words
from God = Not a Holy Book
50. ⢠As in earlier, Muslims understanding of Holy Book
(Quran) is â100% words from Godâ.
⢠Personal letters, narrations, explanations,
commentary from prophet Muhammad or his
companions or Muslims scholars cannot be
considered as part of the Quran, the Holy Book.
⢠It will be put under Sunnah or other books
â and they will never be part of the Holy Book.
51. ⢠In Islam, no one can write in behalf of God or say this
scripture is from God, except by appointed prophets
(whom were chosen to receive the scriptures, via
angel Gabriel).
⢠In Quran, God condemns those who write something
and then proclaimed it is from Him, when it is not.
⢠So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their
own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," in order to
exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what
their hands have written and woe to them for what
they earn.
â Quran Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 79 [2 : 79]
â *âAllahâ is simply the Arabic word for âGodâ
53. ⢠We can conclude that
â This is not 100% word of God
â Thus it is corrupted
⢠Because it should only be 100% from God
â Thus this is not a Holy Book
â Thus we could not 100% trust this Book.
55. ⢠From these 5 major points I presented just
now, this is why Muslims say that the current
Holy Bible is corrupt.
⢠Again, I am here not to offend you, but for you
to understand from our point of view on why
we say your bible is corrupt.
56. ⢠In summary, in Islam
â God is very intelligent and perfect.
â Thus His Holy Book must be authored by Him
alone.
â Not by his creations (humans, angels etc).
57. ⢠They say, "Be Jews or Christians [so] you will be guided."
Say, "Rather, [we follow] the religion of Abraham, inclining
toward truth, and he was not of the polytheists."
⢠Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has
been revealed tous and what has been revealed to
Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the
Descendants and what was given toMoses and Jesus
and what was given tothe prophets from their Lord. We
make no distinction between any of them, and we are
Muslims [in submission] to Him."
â Quran 2 : 135-136
59. ⢠In Islam, there are 4 holy books given to 4
prophets
â Torah : Prophet Musa (Moses)
â Zabur : Prophet Daud (David)
â Injeel (Gospel) : Prophet Isa (Jesus)
â Quran : Prophet Muhammad
60. ⢠So where are these 3 books?
⢠Is Torah in Islam refers to the first five "Books
of Mosesâ?
⢠Is Zabur in Islam refers to Psalm?
⢠Is Injeel in Islam refers to New Testament?
62. ⢠In Jewish tradition, the Torah refers to the first five
"Books of Mosesâ
â Genesis
â Exodus
â Leviticus
â Numbers
â Deuteronomy
⢠But if you look at the last part of Deuteronomy, you
will see that it is unlikely written by Moses alone.
63. Read Deuteronomy 34 closely.
⢠5 And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the
LORD had said. 6 He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth
Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a
hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not
weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the
plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning
was over.
⢠9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom
because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened
to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.
⢠10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the
LORD knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the
LORD sent him to do in Egyptâto Pharaoh and to all his officials and
to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power
or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all
Israel.
64. ⢠It is unlikely Moses wrote the last part of Deuteronomy as it
mentioned
â Where he died.
â At what age he died.
â What the Israelites did when he died.
â The comparison between him with the prophets in Israel that
came after him.
⢠Thus, Deuteronomy is not written by Moses alone. Which
means the current âTorahâ is not by Moses alone.
⢠In Islam, Torah is given to Moses alone.
⢠Hence the current âTorahâ which has author (or authors)
other than Moses, is considered corrupt in Islam point of
view.
65. ⢠This is the hadith, in which prophet Muhammad
explained to the Muslims:
⢠Narrated Abu Huraira: "The people of the Book used to read the
Torah in Hebrew and then explain it in Arabic to the Muslims.
Allah's Apostle said (to the Muslims). 'Do not believe the
people of the Book, nor disbelieve them, but say, 'We believe
in Allah and whatever is revealed to us, and whatever is
revealed to you.â (Sunnah - Translation of Sahih Al- Bukhari)
⢠Thus for us, the 100% original Torah is currently
lost.
67. ⢠The Quran didnât tell much about Zabur,
except that it was revealed to Prophet David.
⢠And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is
in the heavens and the earth. And We have
made some of the prophets exceed others [in
various ways], and to David We gave the
book [of Zabur].
â Quran 17:55
68. ⢠Some people say that the Zabur is Psalms.
⢠But it is well known that the Psalms in the Bible is not
written by David alone. Some of them written by
â Ethan the Ezrahite
â The sons of Korah
â Asaph
â unknown writers (for the 'orphan psalmsâ) and etc
⢠As the Quran mentioned that Zabur is given to prophet
David alone, thus, the Psalms in the bible is not Zabur.
⢠Thus for us, the 100% original Zabur is currently lost.
70. ⢠As for Injeel, as discussed earlier, today,
Gospel according to Jesus is non-existence.
⢠Besides the current Holy Bible is based on
decision by Council of Laodicea (AD 363).
⢠Thus for us, the 100% original Injeel is
currently lost.
71. ⢠As you can see, for us, the 100% original
Torah, Zabur and Injeel are already lost. Thus
we canât give 100% trust to current Holy Bible.
⢠God has revealed the Quran to us via his
messenger Prophet Muhammad, and we are
following this book.
⢠But at the same time, we acknowledge and
believe that God has sent Torah, Zabur and
Injeel to Moses, David and Jesus respectively,
and they were the indeed, word of God.
