2. TASK 1
We had to research 3 traditional moving
image techniques.
I chose to research; zoetrope,
phenakistoscope, thaumatrope, kineograph, and
Eadweard Muybridge.
3. TASK 1 (2D ANIMATIONS)
Next we had to choose 3 of our favourite 2D animations.
I chose: The Lion King, Aladdin and Cinderella.
The Lion King – I like this movie because I find the fact that it was hand-drawn very interesting.
Also because the colours used are very warm and bright; I have very find memories of watching this
when I was little.
Aladdin – I like this film because it shows people of all shapes and sizes; something that I think is
very important for children to see. Also because the characters are fun (especially Genie).
Cinderella – One reason why I chose this animation is because when I was little, I played Cinderella
in a school production and watching the film reminds of it. The other main reason is because,
Cinderella is a dreamer, just like me.
4. TASK 2
We had to create two ideas to storyboard, and choose one to take
forward.
Because the theme was colour, emotion seemed like a good idea to
use. We could interpret the theme however we wanted, as long it revolved
around colour.
Using 20 photographs, we had to then create an animation based on
colour.
Finally, we had to add at least one sound.
5. TASK 3
For task 3 we had to investigate how certain sounds are made; we
watched a Youtube video about Foley and how people in the industry
create sound effects for film/television.
We then made a list of our own personal favourite sound effects.
Mine were; the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver and creaky doors form
basically any horror movie.
6. TASK 4
Overall, the photographing took me around an hour, and the
drawing about 3 hours; it took me quite a while to colour them all in.
Each frame of the animation is between half a second and a
second long. All together there are 22 frames.
7. INITIAL IDEA
At first I had 10 ideas for my animation, but after thinking all of them through, I
narrowed it down to two.
My two ideas were; nail art and word association.
Nail Art: I would create nail art for each finger nail, link each colour to an emotion, and
then use an emoji to represent it. This was my main idea until I ran into difficulty with the
camera.
Word Association: I would write different emotions and colour them in with matching
colours. I used this idea after I ran out of time for my first idea.
8. FINAL OUTCOME
The planning for my second idea went quite smoothly; I created a
storyboard and started the drawings.
9. CREATING THE
ANIMATION
I had never used Photoshop before so I had
trouble figuring it out.
But by reading the hand out we were given
carefully, and with Jen’s help, I eventually created the
animation.
10. FUTURE PROJECTS
As this was the first project of the course, I was unsure on how to use
certain programmes, but as we progress through the course I am sure
that I will become more confident with using them.
Also for future projects, I will make sure all my equipment is in
working order so I don’t have to change my idea(s) again!
