The” First Mass in the Philippines”, a painting by Carlos V. Francisco, is thought to have been completed
between 1955 and 1960. It is one of his finest artworks. The national government commissioned this
work to mark the 400th anniversary of the Christianization of the Philippines, which was celebrated in
Cebu in 1965. This painting's vibrant colors help the viewer understand what happened; they suggest
that the Spaniards were skilled at making the Filipinos happy with their actions while doing so was only a
ruse to colonize them. The painting depicts a good and high level of respect for God, and it connects
them because of the mass. It makes the viewer happy because they show God to Filipinos, and angry
because they use God to colonize these Filipinos. Francisco has been using a variety of elements
together in one composition, and these elements become harmonious in nature. Though it lacks certain
rhythm and repetition, movements are highlighted especially in the visual representation of the sky and
the fabrics.
