Abstract:
The Chishtiyya is one of the most important Sufi
orders of South Asia. The Chishti Sufi approach is distinctive
in many ways from the order Muslim Sufi orders. They
incorporated and amalgamated many regional spiritual rituals
with Islamic concept of spirituality. However, South Asian
Sufis are usually criticized because of their lack of interest
in academic and literary works and it is generally argued that
their Sufi ideas and teachings were not preserved properly.
The present article is an endeavor to negate this popular
notion. The South Asian Sufis have a rich history of
hagiographical tradition. The disciples of the leading Sufis
composed hagiographical notes of their masters to preserve
their Sufi thoughts. The Lataif Ashrafi is considered a
significant source for the study of Chishti Sufis. In which
Nizam al-bin Yemeni composed the spiritual ideas of his
Sheikh Sayyad Ashraf Jahangir Samnani. This study aims to
present briefly a biographical assessment of Sayyad Ashraf
Jahangir Samnani. Furthermore, it attempts to analyze the
