2. ASW GLOBAL WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE WINNERS 2019
ASW MY WINNERS
Iam very grateful for winning the Weight Loss Challenge this year. To me, it is like a
personal proof that we can get what we want in our life when we have a goal and the
determination to achieve it.
When they first announced the competition, I was so excited because I missed the
2017 challenge (due to my knee surgery). Even though I didn’t have much weight to
lose, I still loved to challenge myself and lower my body fat percentage. In addition, my
son will turn 5 this year and he is an active kid. I think it will be a good time for me to
get back in shape, so I could join him in doing physical outdoor activities like cycling,
jogging and playing football.
Regarding my diet, I started to count my daily calorie intake, so it would not exceed
the allowed amount for weight loss goal. Instead of unhealthy diet, I practiced the
Intermittent Fasting method whereby I would be fasting for 16 to 18 hours per day,
several days per week. This basically instructed my body to use the stored fat as a
source of energy for daily activities. I cut daily sugar intake from pre-mixed coffee
and other sugary drinks. Drinking up to 4 litres of water every day was a must. I also
replaced processed, salty food with fresh, home-cooked meals. Honestly, it is hard
when you live in Malaysia to avoid oily food, if you know what I mean.
Every week, I did cardio exercises for the minimum of 20-30 minutes and every other
day, I tried weightlifting to increase muscle mass, so I could maximise calories burnt
during my rest time. The schedule also helped increase strength and flexibility... so I
could keep up with my son. On top of that, I still had good sleep and rest, so the body
could heal and adjust to new diets, new exercise routines.
Believe it or not, the most challenging part for me was to finish off my son’s leftover. I
am the type of person who dislikes wasting food and it was quite a dilemma to finish off
his ice-cream or junk food while I was on diet. In the end, I managed to bring my kid to the
shopping mall during the weekends only, so it would “coincide” with my cheat days. A win-
win situation, I must say. The only exception is my mom’s cooking. They are so delicious
that I simply cannot resist and just eat them all. I bet you would agree with me as well.
Family was an inspiration for me during the Weight Loss Challenge. My wife was amazing
preparing all delicious, healthy meals for me and my son was such a good boy when I had
to go to the gym and couldn’t play with him much.
All in all, ASW Weight Loss Challenge was a great experience for me. I got the motivation
and determination to get back into shape. Hope I can continue to stay fit and conquer
the challenge again next year!

3. Weight Loss Challengewas a realtest ofdiscipline and determination
forme. Itriedthe Intermittent Fasting method andthereweretimes
when I just wanted to ignore the proportioned plates and satisfy my
taste buds. Thankfully, I gathered myself in time and stuck to a healthy
diet. Eggs, vegetables, fruits, coffee, water and green tea were my best
friends during the Challenge. After work, I also played badminton and
most importantly, got good sleep.
Thanks to the Weight Loss Challenge, my diet has become healthier
and more nutritious. My meals were comprised of oats, boiled eggs,
fruits (banana, apple...), vegetables, curry fish, coffee, green tea and a
lot of water. Besides, I also changed my lifestyles. Once a week, I would
jog for about 15 minutes. I used the staircase instead of the lift, likely
after lunch and after work.
I think the biggest challenge were to maintain steadfast determination,
especially when my co-workers had fancy meals full of tasty fried
food. The key here was to reward myself once in a while to kill the
cravings. After reaching a milestone or during company events / family
gatherings, I would treat myself with Nasi Lemak, rice and fried food.

4. ASW GLOBAL WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE WINNERS 2019
ASW VN WINNERS
Initially I would like to thank ASW for the amazing challenge. It was a precious opportunity for everyone to stay fit and
hopefully have a better lifestyle. It had been a long yet rewarding journey for me, getting all the way from 75.70 kg
down to 64.05 kg and becoming the champion in Vietnam. I was not even in the top ten for the first few weigh-ins, but
I wouldn’t call it a bad start. I always prefer to lose weight gradually with a balanced diet and proper exercises. I chose a
clean diet without any form of sugar together with swimming and cardio exercises. Cutting your meals abruptly may give
a better result in the beginning, however in the long run, this rate will be significantly reduced, and your body will start to
store more fat than usual. The biggest challenge for me was getting used to the new diet and workout schedule for the
first few months. However, do not let anything demotivate you! It’s not how you start, but how you finish and reach your
goals that counts. For all the people who want to achieve your desired weight out there, I wish you all the best!
Weight loss challenge was a good chance for me not only to get healthier but also to surpass myself in terms of
physics and spirit. In fact, over 15% weight loss proved that “when there is a will, there is a way”, even though I
considered my body not to be fat at that time.
I started changing my diet step by step to avoid shocking calories deficit and it had the huge, positive impact on my
weight. I cut off my favourite sweet treats as well as oily food and had oatmeal instead for daily meals. Then it worked
perfectly in correlation with high intense cardio and weightlifting within a month.
In the last month of the competition, I had an overseas trip which was planned before I accepted the challenge. It was the
worst travel experience ever when my friends enjoyed the local food whereas I had to stick with my diet. Furthermore,
my most ridiculous thing was visiting the food blogger channels on Youtube at midnight. All obstacles sometimes caused
my endurance to explode. However, the goal was beyond worthy. I am currently happy with my fit body and surely my
colleagues who achieved their certain goals in this journey feel the same.
Never thought that I could lose 8.7kg in twelve weeks
but finally, I did it! This year’s Weight Loss Challenge
was such an amazing experience for me as I had
overcome myself to have a healthier lifestyle. At the
beginning, it was quite hard for me to stick to a daily diet
and exercise at least 1 hour a day. However, thanks to the
support and encouragement from my colleagues as well
as immersing myself in the competition’s atmosphere, I
could follow the initial plan and even rode to work 3 times
per week. After 3 months, I had lost 13.27% of my body
weight and was among the top 3 winners. Thanks ASW
for this wonderful activity and help us to become a better
version. Cheers!

ASW PH WINNERS
Losing weight is tough but being obese is even
tougher. Four months ago, when I participated
on the challenge, I had already decided to change
my way of living. I wanted to live a healthy lifestyle
not just for myself but for the people who believed
in me. I began eating vegetables, fruits and lean
protein, cutting my calories and carbs intake for
my everyday meals, running 5 - 8 kilometers
every night after my shift and saying no to
Friday night outings. It was so hard but as the
old saying goes “It has to be hard, so you’ll
never ever forget”. Weight loss challenge is
not about winning. It’s more about discipline
and how you would challenge yourself to
be better.
When I joined the challenge, I told everyone about
my plan to win. The fear of losing and having
to admit failure was what kept me going. My bag was
always packed with healthy snacks like nuts, apples
and hard-boiled eggs. It stopped me from getting so
hungry and kept me away from the tempting dishes. I
was quite confused and not confident in myself. After
the challenge, I learn that the determination, not the
number on the scale, is what defines who you are. I
love living healthily and that makes all the difference.
Losing weight is not that easy as it takes a lot of
time and effort to achieve a healthier body. I went
to the gym every weekend and did more exercises at
home. I became picky and conscious on the food that
I consumed every day. I chose food that were high
in fibre and protein, low in carbohydrates and fats to
ensure proper body nourishment. The challenging
part was to avoid eating my favourite food and keep
on exercising on a regular basis. Self-discipline,
perseverance, consistency and dedication are the
keys to be a healthier you!

Inspiration can be derived from anything. Different people have different
sources of inspiration. For me, I look at nature. I love outdoor activities especially
hiking, that’s where I got the idea to have a trail route on my design. Since we’re
going to the place with the highest mountain in Malaysia so I added a mountain
scenery in my design. My initial design had birds in it but finally decided in using
orangutan as our mascot, which was the best choice as we’re going to a country full
of orangutans, Yeaa! It took me one week to finalise the design, but the process was
fun. Other contestants’ designs were also awesome but the winning factor in my design
was because it was simple & had orangutans in it LOL! Else I think the others might have
a chance in winning too. I’m glad & happy that others feel my design is the best, thank you
for giving me the chance to share my vision with everyone!

A ROCK NIGHT TO REMEMBER!
Maria Paula Francia
ASW Philippines
The night started young for the ASW Staff. Everyone
was ready and excited to rock the night. The party
started with a welcoming remark from our CEO, Joe Fussell,
who thanked everyone for a job well done for this past
financial year and awarded the staff who have been with
the company for 5 years. After a memorable ceremony,
the games commenced.
The first game was called “bite the bag”, where players
needed to get the brown paper bag on the floor using their
mouth and they couldn’t kneel down. The twist was that
every round, they had a shot! One player gave up during
the 2nd round but the remaining four players showed their
fighting spirit until the end and won the game.
Since the theme is “rock”, we won’t be missing out a rock
band. Our rock band ‘Diverse’, started to give us the rock
vibe by singing Zombie. They did a good job setting up the
mood. But that’s not the end - we preceded immediately
with the 2nd game. This time the crowd was more excited.
The game was “suck the card”. There were three teams
with 5 members each and their only goal was to pass the
card up to the last player using their mouth. Our staff were
very excited to join, we even had Adriano Cusmano and
Chris Argyle as players. But then again, everyone must
drink a shot, which made it hard since the card would
either slip easily or stick with the player’s mouth. Everyone
had their eyes on the players, of course there was a mix of
competitive and funny scenes. After many tries, one team
prevailed and claimed the prize.
To tone down the energy, we had the Day Merge band to
serenadeus.TheygaveusamixedofOPMandinternational
songs. They were very interactive with the audience,
which made it feel like a concert. At last, with the last game
for the night, we tested the alcohol tolerance of our staff.
They played “drink till you drop”. Just as the title says, each
player just has to drink and whoever finishes first wins. It
dawned on me that our staff were really competitive. They
were able to finish before the time was up.
To sum up the program, our ASW dancers showed us their
groove by dancing to remix of songs then the best dressed
were picked from the staff. The heart-warming closing
remark from Anthony Fleetwood was also the sign that
the party was on its last exciting stretch. The DJ played
party songs and people were dancing up a storm. It lasted
for we didn’t know how long but all we could say was that
we still wanted more. The party may have ended but the
memories would stay with us.

WEEKEND GETAWAY TO KUALA LUMPUR 2019
Stella Vu
ASW Vietnam
Ifeel very grateful to the company, especially the organisers, for
supporting and organising such a wonderful trip, because I know it’s
very difficult to organise a thorough one. I loved all moments but maybe
I loved city tour the most, because I’ve never come to Malaysia before,
so all was new to me, taking pictures with my team in every place was
amazing too.
I decided to participate in the performance with the “YOLO” spirit, just
wanted to be myself, to bring joy to everyone at the party, and I was
happy when I could receive the support from everyone. The feeling when I
heard people singing along with me, clapping, just don’t know how to say, I
was very touched, and I don’t think I can forget those moments. Last year,
because it was my first time to be on stage in ASW’s gala dinner, so I was
much more nervous than this year. But people were still amazing. They
made a person like me be confident on stage.
Actually, I didn’t expect that I would get a prize, so when I heard my name,
just couldn’t believe it and felt like my happiness was doubled. About my
future plan, well…actually I love my feeling when I’m on stage, but I’m a little
scared when looking back. I cannot eat anything before singing in front of
people. So maybe it will depend on my health that time.
