2. Coping with having a premature baby
can be difficult.
Many parents find it a very worrying and
stressful time.
You may have lots of questions;
including how best to supply your baby
with your breast milk.
3. • The NHS recommends that mothers of
premature baby’s express eight to 10
times a day, including at least once at
night, to keep milk supply up.
• If you cannot see him or her, looking at a
photograph or video as you express really
seems to help.
4. • Findings show that mums who are
expressing breastmilk for premature
babies should ideally use a hospital-grade
electric breast pump.
• It is also recommended to double
express, the simultaneous expressing of
both breasts reduced the pumping time
by half and improves the milk quantity.
6. Sarah, one of our breastpump hirers says,
“This pump was my absolute life saver. My
daughter was born prematurely and I had to
express milk for her whilst she was still in
hospital. By continuing to express since she has
been home, I have been able to take breaks from
feeding her as family members could feed her
my milk and allow me some respite. It's such a
great machine, easy to use and efficient.”
