Edge manufacturing - The Future of Custom ProductsChris Melissinos
This is a keynote presentation I gave at the very first [MC]2 Conference on supply chain manufacturing meeting the challenge of edge/personal fabrication. Concepts in here include the the democratization of technology via the internet, commodization of technology platforms, and disruption coming from the bottom up.

The critical communications industry/community is on a long journey from the ultra-reliable, low-latency voice & short data-centric solutions of 2010 towards the fully-developed 5G URLLC solutions of 2030. The challenge our relatively niche community faces is to make sure our full needs & requirements & those of our wider societies are included in the 5G roadmap. Quixoticity Index - focusing on mission-critical improvements to 5G that help societies & economies achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - is a response to this need & is intended to inform & guide our industry/community on our journey to a better, smarter, safer world by 2030
Autonomous Agents on the Web: Beyond Linking and Meaning Mike Amundsen Keynot...CA API Management
Our goal should be to create a “world” in which machines speak machine languages over machine-friendly protocols. Where meaning is not as important as identity; Linking is not as important as data transfer; and human understanding is not as important as machine interpretation.
A machine-centered Web is possible today, the evidence is all around us. We only need to shift our gaze, alter our expectations, and change the way we communicate with the machines in our lives.
I talk about the evolution of digital content into services, the role of sensors in the future of the web, about the idea of man-machine collaboration in internet services, and about the role of social networking in building content.

Summaries are to be sent via email before the beginning of class and answer the following questions:
1. What are the main arguments (1 or 2) in this reading?
2. What evidence does the author provide to support his or her argument? (5 or 6 bullets)
3. What are the relative strengths and weaknesses of these arguments and supporting evidence compared to other readings this week or this term? (5 or 6 bullets)
4. What questions does this reading raise? (2 or 3)
5. Outline a study where you could follow up with this work or address shortcomings (1 or 2 lines).Friedmann (2005) It's a Flat World, After All. NY Times. 3 April.
Main argument
· Technological innovations are leveling the world’s economic playing field, whereby initial advantages by industrialized regions are being quickly and easily overcome.
Sub-arguments
· …globalized supply chain being facilitated by broadband investments, cheaper computers, email software, search engines – compartmentalized production
· “…created a platform where intellectual work, intellectual capital, could be delivered from anywhere. It could be disaggregated, delivered, distributed, produced and put back together again”
· Globalization 1.0 Large to medium (1492-1800) – globalizing countries for resources and imperial conquest – European drivers
· Globalization 2.0 Medium to small (1800-2000) – globalizing companies for markets and labour -- American and European drivers
· Globalization 3.0 – Small to tiny (2000-?) – globalizing individuals and small groups collaborating with others – driven by all colours of human rainbow
· “When the world is flat, you can innovate without having to emigrate. This is going to get interesting. We are about to see creative destruction on steroids.”
· 10 events converging: 1. Berlin wall made us one; 2. Netscape made internet friendly; 3. Y2K (application-to-application); 4. Outsourcing; 5. Offshoring; 6. Open sourcing; 7. Insourcing (UPS logistics); 8. Supply-chaining (Walmart); 9. Informing (Google, unlimited data); 10. Steroids (wireless and VoIP). All 10 converged ca 2000 and allowed real time collaborations without regard to geography, distance or language.
· 1990s BRIC opened up economies, adopted new technos without sunken costs
· “That is what is going to happen to so many jobs -- they will go to that corner of the world where there is the least resistance and the most opportunity.”
Questions
· Is Friedman’s flat world populated by uniform nation-states? Are there no (widening) differences within industrialized and industrializing countries?
· What is the role of the state? Is the national government to be responsible for “Meeting the challenges of flatism requires as comprehensive, energetic and focused a response as did meeting the challenge of Communism.” ? To whom is the challenge issued?
· ''Today, the most profound thing to me is the fact that a 14-year-old in Romania or Bangalore or the Soviet Union or Vietnam has all the information, all the tools, all the sof ...

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
With each of the past 3 Ruby releases, YJIT has delivered higher and higher performance. However, we are seeing diminishing returns, because as JIT-compiled code becomes faster, it makes up less and less of the total execution time, which is now becoming dominated by C function calls. As such, it may appear like there is a fundamental limit to Ruby’s performance.
In the first half of the 20th century, some early airplane designers thought that the speed of sound was a fundamental limit on the speed reachable by airplanes, thus coining the term “sound barrier”. This limit was eventually overcome, as it became understood that airflow behaves differently at supersonic speeds.
In order to break the Ruby performance barrier, it will be necessary to reduce the dependency on C extensions, and start writing more gems in pure Ruby code. In this talk, I want to look at this problem more in depth, and explore how YJIT can help enable writing pure-Ruby software that delivers high performance levels.
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
