neighbours go a long way in ensuring a safe neighbourhood. This breeds a
lookout situation for every suburb and thus guarantees a watchful and vigilant
locality.
Simple Lifestyle: Living a simple and responsible lifestyle thoroughly drives off
attention from criminals and hoodlums. Conducting activities moderately and
avoiding glitz and glamour help to make one less of a censurable and threat
personality.
Be Vigilant: Being alert and watchful is a wisdom element. Every individual
has to be sharp spirited and psyched up to happenings around them. Be
observant, be perceptive and report any unusual behavior or acts
immediately to the appropriate authorities.
9. Keep Gadgets Close at Night | Over the years, it has become common
knowledge that having gadgets like radios, phones(loaded with airtime) and
even the torchlight close to our easy reach permanently helps us during
danger times
Ensure Availability of Home Security Equipment | For the Home, security has
never been a more talked about situation than now. Basic security appliances
like lights, windows, doors and gates should be available and secured at night
time. Doors should be locked, curtains drawn and gates closed.
10. Examine Visitors | Ensure to always check and vet external bodies that visit
your homes. Some are hoodlums who act on uniform as NPF or PHCN Staff.
Always scrutinize such individuals and visitors and keep them at a distance.
We alone as a people can only secure ourselves. There is no surveillance like
individual surveillance. Note that your safety is paramount and no officer can
protect you more than you can.
11. Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Robbery can happen at any time. It is important to always be aware of your
surroundings but to also know how to protect yourself should you ever be put
into a robbery situation.
Always Protect Yourself
Walk with your head up, make eye contact with others, have confidence and
move at a steady pace.
Stay in well-lit, heavily traveled areas. Avoid alleys, dark parking lots or
secluded areas.
If you wear headphones while walking, keep the volume low so you can hear
other noises.
Avoid texting and walking as your attention is not on where you are going or
who is coming toward you.
12. If you are going to a particular destination, let someone know you are on your
way and approximately what time you will arrive.
If you are carrying a wallet, keep it in your purse or bag, pockets and carry it
close to your body. Do not leave personal items unattended to at any time.
Vary your route. Take a different path so you don’t become predictable.
13. What If I Get Robbed?
Don’t panic. Stay calm, breathe and
just let the robber have whatever
they want. Your personal safety is
worth more than anything you may
have on your person.
Remember what the robber looks like.
Look for distinguishing marks, scars
and tattoos. Compare your height and
weight to that of the attacker.
If the aggressor states they have a
weapon, assume this is true and that
they may use it. Fully cooperate with
their instructions.
If you see someone else getting
robbed, report it to the police
immediately, when it is safe for you to
do so.
14. After a Robbery?
Watch the direction in which the attacker flees. If they are in a vehicle, get
the color, make, model and license plate number.
Notify the police as soon as you can and give them all of the characteristics of
the attacker. If your wallet was stolen, notify your bank and credit card
companies.
Go to a safe place. If you are not near your destination, go to a public place
for help. If you are near your destination, get there and lock the doors.
If there are witnesses, ask them to wait for the police, or obtain their
contact information.
15. General Safety TIPS
Tell a family member or friend of your travel route. Call them when you arrive safely.
Have your exact fare ready.
Don't doze off or become engrossed in a book. It can make you an easy target. Stay alert and
aware of your surroundings.
Keep your purse, bags, backpack and other belongings in your lap or between your feet. Do
not leave them on an empty seat.
Be wary of noisy passengers arguing or causing a commotion. This could be an act to distract
you while others try to steal your valuables.
If you feel threatened by other passengers, change your seat or drop from the vehicle at the
most easiest public place.
Avoid displaying cash, credit cards in public
In case of emergency, contact the local authorities and alert the driver immediately.
Keep a list of emergency contacts and information for employees and clients, and police, fire
and paramedic departments, taxi man, okada or napep operator.
Listen to the news.

Editor's Notes
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE.
WELCOME TO KNOWLEDGE SHARING
Either physically, emotionally, spiritually etc
To be secured, you have to be enemies with procrastination.
You have to be definite.
You have to ensure all things and not assume. EG You park your car outside the office without locking your doors thinking that the security man would oversee the car at all times. You can meet a mess before the close of business by the time you get back to the car.
Am just going to go into 3 out of all so as not to take much of our time.
Personal security
Group and Asset security.
Personal security could be generated and actualized through personal improvised security model or through the natural reflex action
Types of security provision: Car – Car lock, trackers, etc
Money – Keep in a bank, investments etc
. Some people put on their indoor lights to sleep and switch off the security outdoor lights
Some people, once they enter the bus going to work in the morning or going back home, they plug in there headphones and increase the volume so loud that they cant hear anything aside the sounds coming from the phones. You are either exposing yourself to either kidnaping, asset theft or general robbery.
What this slide is telling us is that after taking precautions against all threats and you still encounter an attack and robbery whats next?
