1. Install studs (9) if removed. Install seal (8).

2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing. The weight of
torque converter housing (5) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb). Install torque converter
housing (5).
3. Apply Tooling (D) to the housing spotface and washer of bolt (7).
Note: Remove excess sealant after bolt (7) is torqued.
4. Install bolt (7). Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of studs (9). Install nuts (6). Tighten bolt
(7) and nuts (6) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

5. Connect harness assembly and cable strap (4).
6. Connect harness assembly (2) and cable straps (3).
7. Use Tooling (C) and Install lip seal (1) dry.
End By:
a. Install the gear pump (scavenge transmission).
b. Install the torque converter.

Relief Valve (Torque Converter Inlet) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the pump drive.
1. Remove bolts (1) and bolt (3). Remove manifold (2).

2. Remove retaining ring (4). Remove relief valve (5).
3. Remove O-ring seal (6).
1. Install O-ring seal (6).

2. Install relief valve (5). Install retaining ring (4).
3. Position manifold (2). Install bolts (1) and bolt (3).
End By:
a. Install the pump drive.

1. Remove bolts (1). Remove cover (2) and the O-ring seal.

2. Remove bolts (3) from adapter (4). Use bolts (3) to remove adapter (4).
3. Remove O-ring seal (5) and shims (6).

4. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to remove bearing cup (7).
5. Remove gear assembly (8).
6. Remove bearing cones (9) and seal (10).

7. Remove bearing cup (11).
1. Install bearing cup (11).
2. Raise the temperature of bearing cones (9) to install. Install seal (10).

3. Install gear assembly (8).
4. Use Tooling (A) and suitable press to install bearing cup (7).
5. Install required shims (6) to obtain 0.1 mm (0.00394 inch) to 0.2 mm (0.00787 inch) end
play. Install O-ring seal (5) and lubricate with lubricant being sealed.

6. Position adapter (4) and install bolts (3).
7. Position cover (2) and the O-ring seal. Install bolts (1).

Removal Procedure
Start By:
1. Remove bolts (5) and remove cover and O-ring seal (4). Remove bolt (3) and washer (2).
2. Remove shaft (1) and remove idler gear (6) from the housing.

3. Remove bearing (7).
1. Install idler gear (6) in the reverse order of removal.

Start By:
a. Remove the torque converter housing.

1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing (1). The weight
of torque converter housing (1) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb). Position torque converter
housing (1) on to Tooling (B).
2. Remove bolts (2) and shield assembly (3).
3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to pump drive (4). The weight of pump
drive (4) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb). Remove bolts (5) and (6). Remove pump drive (4).

4. Remove O-ring seals (7) from torque converter housing (1).
