1. Remove ten bolts (1) and bolt (3). Remove manifold (2).
2. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove race (4) from manifold (2).
3. Remove carrier assembly (6) from manifold (5).

4. Remove O-ring seals (7).
Opposite side
5. Remove seal (8).
6. Remove retaining ring (9), bearing (10), and gear (11).

7. Remove bearing cups (12) and (13) from gear (11).
8. Remove bearing cone (14) from carrier (15).

9. Release lock (16). Use Tooling (B) in order to remove nut (17). Turn over the manifold. Use
Tooling (C) in order to remove gear (19). Remove bearing cone (18).
Note: If necessary, use Tooling (D) to assist the removal of gear (19).
10. Remove bearing cone (20) from gear (19).
11. Remove bearing cups (21) and (22).

1. Raise temperature of bearing cone (20) and lower temperature of gear (19). Install bearing
cone (20).
2. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (21) and (22). Install bearing cups (21) and (22).
3. Lower the temperature of gear (19) and raise the temperature of bearing cone (18). Position
manifold on gear (19). Install bearing cone (18). Position lock (16). Install nut (17) and
tighten hand tight.

4. Install bearing cone (14) onto carrier (15).
5. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (12) and (13). Install bearing cups (12) and (13) into
gear (11).
6. Position gear (11) onto carrier (15). Install bearing cone (10). Install retaining ring (9).
7. Install seal (8).

8. Install O-ring seals (7).
9. Install carrier assembly (6) into manifold (5).
10. Lower the temperature of race (4). Apply Tooling (E) evenly onto the mating surfaces of
race (4) and manifold (2). Use Tooling (A) to install race (4) into manifold (2).

11. Position manifold (2). Install ten bolts (1). Install bolt (3). Do not torque bolts (1) and bolt
(3) at this time.
12. Ensure that bearing cone (10) and bearing cone (18) rotate freely.
End By:
a. Install pump drive.

1. Install O-ring seals (7) in torque converter housing (1).

2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to pump drive (4). The weight of pump
drive (4) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb). Position pump drive (4). Install bolts (5) and (6).
Tighten bolts (5) and (6) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).
3. Position shield assembly (3) and install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m
(20 ± 5 lb ft).

a. Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft). Tighten bolt (9) to a
torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 8 lb ft).
b. Measure the rolling torque for bearing (10) and record this measurement in N·m.
Note: If the torque exceeds 8 N·m (71 lb in), disassemble the unit and replace the
necessary components.
c. Rolling torque required for bearing (12) should be the torque measured from Step 3.b
multiplied by 0.8 and then add 2.02 ± 0.4 N·m. Record this measurement as the
required rolling torque for bearing (12). Tighten nut (11) until the required rolling
torque is achieved.
d. Secure nut (11) with lock (13).
e. Ensure bearings (10) and (12) rotate freely.

4. The weight of torque converter housing (1) is approximately 227 kg (500 lb). Attach
Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing (1). Remove torque
converter housing (1) from Tooling (B).
End By:
a. Install the torque converter housing.

Transmission and Torque Converter Oil Filter - Remove and
Install
SMCS - 3067-010
Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Release the system pressure.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Raise the hood.

2. Remove housing (2) and the O-ring seal. Remove Transmission and Torque Converter Oil
Filter (1) and the O-ring seal.
3. To remove the transmission and torque converter oil filter base, complete the following
steps.
4. Disconnect hose assemblies (3). Disconnect harness assembly (4).
5. Remove four bolts (6) and transmission and torque converter oil filter base (5).

6. Remove harness assembly (7).
Installation Procedure
1. Install Transmission and Torque Converter Oil Filter (1) in the reverse order of removal.
a. If transmission and torque converter oil filter base (5) was removed. Tighten harness
assembly (7) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).
b. Tighten housing (2) to a torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft) to 100 N·m (74 lb ft) using a 1-
1/2 inch socket or box end wrench.
Note: Do not use open end or adjustable wrench. Do not use air wrench.

Start By:
a. Remove the cab.
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.
When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of
the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a
component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work
under a heavy component.
