After the industrial revolution and its bad effects on cities in Europe,
some movements began to arise calling for a need for more human and
well designed spaces in the cities .

as key works in the field of urban perception and visual studies were
performed by Kevin Lynch and Gordon Cullen in 1960 and 1961.

Urban Design and your city
Each Student is asked to search for two open spaces inside your city.
- One example represents a successful open space regarding the good
urban design consideration.
- The second one represents a bad open space regarding the neglect of
urban design consideration.
You need to perform a simple analysis for the two open spaces identifying the
reasons why one space is more successful than the other one
• You need to use pictures to clarify your analysis.
• Only two power point slides are required.
• A sample of students’ work will be presented next class.
• The submission on a link on blackboard
