Ancient Africa

Editor's Notes

  1. womans clothing are mainly brightly coloured dresses with patterns all over them. A mans clothings were sometimes dress looking or a long sleaved shirt that was also mainly brightly coloured with patterns and long baggie trousers. Clothing could tell people what parts of africa you came from and what you job was and your place in socioty.
  2. In ancient africa they ate pretty much the same foods we eat now days. Fish, red rice, onion, Chili peppers and other wonderful things. Now days after they finish their meal, they sometimes have mint tea pastries made of honey, fruits and nuts. Mint tea is also served and offered at restraints.
  3. Popular jewelry at the time was “beads.” Beads came in all different colours, shapes and sizes. People could tell the most craziest things from beads. Beads could tell you peoples age! Most woman wore beads every where they went, with every outfit they wore to every celebration. There were many styles of jewelry. Beads, earings, necklaces, braclets, you name it!
  4. In Africa there are many reasons for dancing. Some examples are; Weddings and Births and for entertainment. Just about every part of africa danced for near enough all the apparent reasons. Dancing was a huge part in african culture because it showed respect to their ancestors and to their gods.
  5. Ancient Africans had strange believes. 2 of their strange believes were cows and birds. There has not been enough information on why they worship and these animals are part of their believes. Africans love to talk and pray to their ancestors. A reason for this is to ask for guidance from their ancestors and help to help their plants and vegetables grow and any other things that they might ask.
  6. Over the years there has been one game that has gone down in many generations and has been adapted and changed by other cultures but in africa it has always remained the same, “Mancala.” Mancala is an ancient game that africans play on a board or in the sand. The game looks very confusing but is great fun.Another way of entertainment is through dancing. Of course we all know that dancing is really fun and something we have been doing for hundreds of years.
  7. One of the most wealthiest places in Africa was Zimbabwe.People in Africa believed that cows were worth more than gold so they would have many farms with loads of cows on them, but at the same time have some gold. I believe that back in ancient Africa, they hadn’t discovered how much gold really was worth. Now days, solid gold is worth millions!I think that another reason that cows might have been very valuable is because they are connected to their religion and belifes.
  8. There are many ways of festivals and celebrations. In Africa, festivals and celebrations are mainly celebrated through dance or having a feast. Some examples of celebrations are; Weddings and Births.
  9. We have learnt that there are many things objects and clothing can tell you that you probably never even thought were possible. We have also learnt that clothing, Jewelry, food and dancing were very important in the African Society.
  10. I think my feature, culture helps to create a civilization because in my perspective you can’t have a civilization if you don’t have any culture because when you don’t have a culture you probably would have much of a religion because Religion is almost like Culture but they do have their differences. I think the most important thing you should have in a civilization is Culture because religion and culture pretty much create a civilization.
