  2. 2. Essential Question <ul><li>Which Ancient African Kingdom was the strongest? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why I chose this topic. <ul><li>The reason I chose this topic is because I like to learn about ancient kingdoms anywhere in the world and I thought this topic would be interesting. Also I like learning about what it was like back a long time ago. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What I already knew. <ul><li>What I already knew about my topic is: That the first ancient kingdom in Africa is that Egypt was the first kingdom. </li></ul>

Information (Site 1) <ul><li>The kingdom of Kush was rich and powerful. </li></ul><ul><li>Kush was the center of culture and military might. </li></ul><ul><li>Their natural resources were gold, ivory, copper, frankincense, and ebony. </li></ul><ul><li>Kush traded these resources for pottery. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Information (Site 1) <ul><li>The kingdoms Bowmen warriors were known and feared. </li></ul><ul><li>The people in Kush thought they were the first people on earth. </li></ul><ul><li>The kingdom of Kush were prized by their neighbors </li></ul>

Information (Site 2) <ul><li>Ancient Ghana had a great military power. </li></ul><ul><li>Legend has it that the king could order 200,000 warriors and 40,000 people with bows and arrows and the legend might be true. </li></ul><ul><li>Even though the king had a big army he did not want to fight. </li></ul><ul><li>Griots told stories about anansi the spider who owned all the stories in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Ghana controlled the trade route between the salt and gold mines. </li></ul><ul><li>Ghana’s nickname was “The Gold Coast.” </li></ul>
  8. 8. Information (Site 3) <ul><li>About two million years ago there were only about 2,000 people in Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>The first African kingdom was Egypt. </li></ul>

Weapons and Armor (Site 4) <ul><li>In traditional Africa helmets were not only used for protection but also to show status or rank. </li></ul><ul><li>The shields were decorative and showed ritual objects with symbolic meaning. </li></ul><ul><li>The weapons they used were made from iron. </li></ul><ul><li>Most weapons were for ritual and ceremonial use. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Information (Site 5) <ul><li>Sudan is Africa’s largest country. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1899 Anglo-Egyptian agreement establishes the British-dominated condominium. </li></ul><ul><li>Western Sahara has a rich part of the desert for crops. </li></ul>

Interesting Information <ul><li>They were able to make weapons out of iron. </li></ul><ul><li>Most Ancient Kingdoms did not want to fight each other. </li></ul><ul><li>There were only about 2,000 Africans about 2 million years ago. </li></ul><ul><li>Most or all of the Kingdoms had a great military power. </li></ul>
