1. Three Point Lighting
This is a method of lighting which is used in film making, this helps to
illuminate the shot's subject and also controlling the shading and shadows
produced by direct lighting. To do this they use three lights, these are the
Key Light, the Fill Light and the Back Light.
The Key Light: This light shines directly on the subject and is the main
illuminator, so the strengh, colour and angle may have a huge affect on the
shots overall lighting design.
The Fill Light: This light shines on the subject but from a side angle, quite
relative to the key and quite often at a lower position than the key. It
balances the key by illuminating shaded surfaces. It is usually softer than
the key light as well.
The Back Light: This light shines on the subject from behind. It gives the
subject a rim of light to separate the subject from the background.
