3. INTRODUCTION OF POWDER DOSAGE FORM
• Curna (Churna) – Fine powder of drug or drugs is
known as Curna, Drugs mentioned in yoga are
cleaned, properly, dried thoroughly, Pulversied and
then sieved.
• Ksaras – Alakaline substances obtained from the ash
of drugs are known as Ksaras. Drugs are cut in to
small pieces and burnt to get ash. Ash is dissolved in
water, stained again evaporated to get rid of water
while salty solid obtained is known as Ksar. E.g.: Yav
Ksara, Palsa Ksara.
4. • Sattva-Water extractable solid substances
obtained from drugs are known as Sattva. E.g.:
Gulvel Sattva.
• Pisti – These are obtained by triturating the
drug with the specified liquids and exposing to
sun or moon light. E.g.: Praval Pisti, Mukta Pisti.
• Bhasma – The powdered form of the
substances, obtained by calcinations of metals
minerals or animal products by a special
process in closed crucibles in pits covered with
cow dung cake (Puta) is known as Bhasma. E.g.:
Godanti Bhasma, Lauha Bhasma.
5. INTRODUCTION OF CHURNA
• In Ayurveda, Churna refers to any mixture of powdered or
mixed herbs and or minerals, used as a medicinal treatment
for illness or disease
• Churna is a fine powder made by certain drugs or combination
of drugs.
• Each ingredient is pulverized separately and mixed together.
Churna is also called as raj and Kshada.
• Churna is the common drugs of present era & these medicines
may be used without doctor’s prescription. The Ayurvedic
drugs are derived from vegetable sources from the various
parts of the plant like root, steam. Leaf, flower, fruit extract or
plant as a whole.
6. FORMULATION OF CHURNA

7. STANDARDIZATION OF CHURAN
1. Churnas should be free flowing powders and
should not adhere or become moist.
2. Churnas are stable up to one year if they are
stored properly.
3. Finer the powder, better is its potency and therapeutic
value.
8. EVALUATION OF PHYSICAL PARAMETERS:
• 1) Determination of pH:-The pH of 1% solution of
formulated churna was determined using pH
meter (Elico pH meter).
• 2) Determination of Moisture content :-The
moisture content of churna was found using
halogen moisture determining apparatus (Mettler
Toledo).
• 3) Determination of Ash Values:- I. Total Ash Value
• 4) Alcohol Soluble Extractive Values:- Ethanol was
used as solvent in place of chloroform water and
remaining procedure was the same as that of
water-soluble extractive value.

9. • 5. Determination of Heavy Metal Contamination
Test for Mercury:-
To 10 drops of test solution 6M Hcl was added to
get a white precipitate. The precipitate was then treated with 6M
ammonia solution. If the colour of precipitate changes to grey or
black colour then it indicates the presence of mercury.

• Triphala Churn:-Analgesic, antibacterial, hypoglycemic,
antiaging, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.It helps
with headaches, dyspepsia, fatigue, oxidative stress reduction,
and infectious disorders like tuberculosis.
• Sitopaladi Churan:-It is prescribed for the treatment of cold,
cough associated with bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, viral
respiratory infection, and in chest congestion.
11. • Drakshadi Churan:-is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of weight
loss, emaciation and tiredness.
• Kayam Churan:-Constipation, gas, acidity and headache are all
treated with it. Gastritis, indigestion and among the digestive
issues that the medicine alleviates.
• Trikatu Churan:-treating umpteen health problems including
indigestion, gastritis, constipation, obesity, asthma, cough and
cold,infections, ulcers
• Sudarshan Churan:- It helps in enhancing appetite and digestion.
