This presentation discusses Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). It defines MOOCs as open online courses aimed at unlimited participation via the web. Some key points made are: MOOCs can engage learners' emotions in collaborative learning environments; they provide interactive forums to build student and teacher communities; and their biggest promise is opening education to anyone with an internet connection. However, a disadvantage is that poor countries and families may not be able to afford computers and internet access needed to participate.
2. What is moocs?
Moocs is the open online course
aimed at unlimited participation and
open access via the web.
3. Why is it important to use
moocs?
Engaging students’ emotions is one of the top
ways to foster meaningful learning. This may
be especially true in a MOOC environment,
which is too often associated with learning in
isolation. This research provides evidence that
by fostering collaborative learning
environments, MOOCs can engage learners’
emotions in highly positive ways. Investigations
like these can inform instructors and MOOC
providers as they work to design meaningful
virtual learning experiences.
4. Who can use mooc’s?
Moocs
provide interactive user fora
that help build a community for
students, professors, and teaching
assistance.
Moocs was developed for
distance education.
5. What does a student need in
order to use Moocs?
One
of the biggest promises of MOOCs is
opening the doors of education to
anyone who wants it—all that is needed is
a computer and an Internet connection.
At least it works in theory.
6. What are the benefit of using
mooc?
If
you are using moocs you don’t need to
go outside your house spending money
on transport going to courses but with
moocs you learn from your house, from
your bed.
7. There is currently a global push to increase the
number of college-educated students, and in
many countries there are not enough universities
to accommodate all of the upcoming collegeaged people. MOOCs have been proposed as
one solution to this problem. However, the digital
divide between developed and developing
countries is getting bigger and technologies like
MOOCs rely on infrastructure and Internet
connectivity that simply aren’t available in many
places. There are initiatives around the world to
address the infrastructure and connectivity
problems, but more will be necessary if online
education is to be a valid method of expanding
access to education.
8. What are advantages of using
Moocs?
One
of the biggest advantages of
MOOCs is that they allow anyone,
anywhere to take courses from some of
the best educational institutions around
the country, and even around the world.
With the possibility of accessing course
catalogs from more than 100 top schools.
9. What are disadvantages of
using Moocs?
Some
poor countries and families cannot
afford to buy their students computers
and internet.
10. I think this year in this course
we will be learning about the
online teaching, online
learning, online
communication with other
education stakeholders.
