There is no doubt about the fact that people adore their pets and give them lot of love and
care. But maintaining pets can get extremely difficult at times and cats are no exception. It is a
common problem of cats urinating in unwanted places of the house and the odor causing
distress to home dwellers and guests alike. However, it is not a problem that you cannot get
rid of.
How to remove odor of cat urine
The first task is to locate cat urine stains which can be done by using a black fluorescent light
that is available in pet stores. This light, when used in a dark room, will show the stains as a
yellow spot on carpets, upholstery or walls. Once located, there are a number of solutions that
can be used to remove cat urine odor.
Using an enzymatic cleaner – This is the best solution for removing cat urine odor and
also the stains that it leaves. Spraying an enzymatic cleaner at the spot where the cat
has urinated kills the odor completely and thus prevents your pet from returning to the
same spot. These cleaners can be found in pet stores.
Using homemade urine removers – If you do not prefer enzymatic cleaners, you can
prepare your own cleaner with the help of certain household ingredients to remove cat
urine odor. One way is to mix white vinegar and warm to prepare a spray which you can
apply on the urine spot and then use paper towels to dry up the area as much as
possible. Another way to do this dipping a cloth in the solution and wiping the area. You
can also make a spray by mixing together hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and a bit of
liquid hand soap and apply it on the spot of the foul and later rinse the area with warm
water.
It is advisable not to use any ammonia based products for removing cat urine odor as its own
smell resembles that of urine.
