3. Amarnath Yatra
Located 145 km from east of Kashmir,
Amarnath is the most famous place in India
typically known for the icy Shiv Linga that
changes its shape with the change in season.
The size of the lings also becomes smaller or
bigger when the moon waxes and wanes. On
full moon day, the size of the linga reaches at 6
ft height. On the full moon day during July and
August, which the Hindus call “Shravana”,
when the shiva linga attains the maximum
height, it is believed that Lord Shiva first
appeared on this day.
Amarnath Yatra is the holy journey towards the Amarnath Cave, where this Shiva
Linga is placed. It is at an altitude of 13700 ft at the glacial valley and the cave is
about 150 ft high and 90 ft long. There are more ice formations that resemble the
images of different gods in the cave. The biggest figure is Shiva’s image which is
called “Amarnath” and being worshipped by thousand of devotees every year.
4. Chardham Yatra
As the name suggests, Chardham is the
name of the four pious abodes of
different gods in the Himalayan ranges at
Uttarakhand state. The famous shrines
that together form the Chardham Yatra
are Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and
Yamunotri. All the four dhams are
situated at different districts at the
serene and captivating valleys of
Himalayas.
Where Badrinath is located at the Chamoli district, Kedarnath in Rudraprayag and
both the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples are located at Uttarkashi district and are
