  • 1. Building a house? Not a real one a sketchup one!
  • 2. Tricky, Tricky
    • Getting used to sketchup can be tricky
    • Before starting I would recommend you have a play with the tools.
    • Make sure you get used to all the angles, you going to need them!
  • 3. Its got a wall and floor and roof!
    • We need to start somewhere so a good place is the walls. If you need to add furniture into the house I would start with a floor.
    • Start with creating a rectangle using the rectangle tool, or pressing R on the keyboard:
  • 4. Extrude – That’s a bit rude?
    • We need to make it longer now to make the basic shape of a house.
    • We will use the extrude tool from the menu, or press the P key.
    • Drag the face you want to pull and drag it to where you want and let go.
    • This will make a prism
  • 5. A roof?
    • We need to make a roof, we are going to make a typical pitched roof!
    • Select the tape measure and measure the top line of an end face.
    • When you do this it will create a start point an end point and a middle point. We need the middle point to make the roof symetrical.
  • 6. Line it all up
    • Next we need to draw a line from the corner into the air to make a point
  • 7. Bring it down
    • Make another line to make a point in the air.
    • The program will fill it in.
  • 8. Time to pull again
    • We now need to use the extrusion tool to pull the roof across the house.
  • 9. Boring…
    • Now we have a boring white box. We need to apply some textures, windows and doors.
    • This is the easy part.
    • Go to the window menu and select component, the go back and select materials.
    • Here you will see a range of things you can put into your sketch
  • 10. Good Luck!
