Look for the experts around you! I’m fortunate in working at a college where scholars abound, but they’re everywhere!
Local businesses, Chamber of Commerce – make it special, get them in to see what you’re doing. Get their support!
Local Artists: Always looking for more exposure, often give their work to show for free (Jazz musicians for Black History Month)
If you’ve got a display: make it active!

Using greenery to break up the space, cover some of the problems, bring in dimension; Also printed some images on very large paper – high quality images needed (and CIT)!

Instead of plain background.. Take a photo.. Accordion fold to give it texture. If artifact is too small.. Take a photo and enlarge it so they can see detail. Ask folks what they have lying around their homes!!!

Add texture/ambiance – printed 6’ X 2’ – burned edges with candle and smoked sections to give it an old look.
Need an easy and inexpensive way to fill space? Muslin and a marker!
Insist on research for context! Many times things are handed to me to slap on the wall… I can do some research, but I need their expertise. With a little prodding, it usually comes out better than expected.

While not as aesthetically pleasing, it became a much-talked-about centerpiece to the whole exhibit. It’s still talked about by students! (truth window)
