into a pan mixer where water is added in the
required proportion for intimate mixing. The
proportion of the raw material is generally in the
ratio 60-80% of fly ash 10-20% lime, 10% Gypsum
and 10% sand, depending upon the quality of raw
materials.
After mixing, the mixture is shifted to
thehydraulic/mechanical presses. Thebricks are
carried on wooden pellets to the open area where
they are dried and water cured for 21 days. The
bricks are tested and sorted before dispatch

10. Several processes are involved in the
making of bone china, but the ingredient
that sets it apart from other china is that it
contains at least 25 percent bone ash. This
not only adds a certain amount of strength
and white color to china but also makes it
somewhat translucent. Light passes
through it, although it is not
transparent. Bone china is also usually
more expensive than other china, and this
is justified by the processes and intensive
labor involved in its making.

13. The best quality of mirror is obtained
by silvering plate glass which produces
true and undisturbed image due to its
high polish, flatness and uniform
thickness. If sheet glass is used instead,
true reflection is not possible because of
characteristic surface waviness of the
glass even though it is of the
highestgrade. It is generally used for
making small mirrors only

14. The glass plate is heated to a
temperature above its softening point
and then subjected to rapid cooling.
The glass is suddenly chilled and in this
process contracts towards the core. It
stretches until it has solidified and is
no longer able to contract further at
this stage the core is still soft. It
contracts against restrained exercise
by the solidified upper layer of the
glass.

15. Graphite Crucibles are refractory
containers specially shaped for
metallurgical operations. These are
made of a mixture of Graphite, Refractory
Clay, Grog and other additives. These
crucibles are termed as clay bonded
Graphite crucibles according to the raw
materials used. The crucibles are available
with or without spout. These crucibles are
used for melting ferrous, non-ferrous metals
alloys and noble metals.

24. The operating principle of a
thermometer is quite simple.
A known measure of liquid (mercury,
alcohol, or a hydrocarbon-based fluid) is
vacuum-sealed in a glass tube.
The liquid expands orcontracts when air is
heated or cooled.
As the liquid level changes, a
corresponding temperature scale can be
read to indicate the current temperature.
