Magento seo—basic technical optimization part 1
1. Magento SEO—Basic Technical
Optimization Part 1
With a non-stop march of technologies, our society is changing its buying behaviors and now we have
open sky of internet to fly around the world. The exponential growth of e-commerce has led us to invent
advanced e-commerce solutions and Magento is the latest and super one.
Magento is not fulfilling the needs of shoppers only, but also help online store owners to get good
ranking in the SERP in order to get good business. In other words, it is helping in internet marketing by
its in-built SEO friendly nature and features. In this long series, I would like to touch some sensitive SEO
issues related to Magento development.
However, since the beginning Magento is SEO friendly, but my discussion is most relevant to the latest
versions like 1.2.1 and onwards. Once you set up the store you need to configure it before going to
further programming and this configuration also involves many SEO settings so let’s see, which SEO
settings are need ultimate focus.
First of all go to backend or admin panel during Magento programming and hit the system tab where
you will find the configuration dropdown. On configuration page push the web tab and under that select
the search engines optimization tab. Now you will have several options or sections where you have to go
to enable server URL rewriters. This way you will get capacities to create your custom SEO friendly URLs
for your product pages.
Today bots are intelligent and can detect the relevancy of the keywords you use in the urls of products
with products so you have good chances to place your best keyword in the URL. By default Magento is
generating URLs of products, which are also include the name of stores if you have more than one or
only show default word. Same the ways you will find names of categories and sub-categories in the URL
of a product in which it belongs. Therefore, it is imperative to remove the additional characters from the
URL and make it short-and-sweet to read and remember in Magento e-commerce development.
Now you may understand that what we should do so let’s set “Add store Code to Urls” option to “No” at
functionality so we will prevent adding store code further.
