  1. 1. CharactereducationBy: shelby bollner
  2. 2. What is character education? Character Education is defined by Wikipedia as “theteaching of children in a manner that would purportedly helpthem develop variously as moral, civic, good, mannered, behaved, non-bullying, healthy, critical, successful, traditional, compliant and socially acceptable beings.”So to put it simply, it’s is teaching your students to be goodhuman beings. Could there be any more important of a task?
  3. 3. Why is this important? This is a good question…but abetter question is howwouldn’t it be important? Yes, teachers have about amillion things to do in theclassroom so what are somereasons that they shouldspend time focusing ondeveloping their childrens’character…Let’s see!
  4. 4. 1. School might be the only placeyour kids learn charactereducation Yes, all parents shouldteach their children how tohave good character, butthe fact is some don’t. And when these kids arewith you for nearly 35 hoursin a week, this is a perfecttime to help develop theircharacter to benefit yourclassroom and to benefitthose kids.
  5. 5. 2. Character Education BuildsRelationships and Helps Contributeto better School Environments Discussing and implementing charactereducation in your classroom can help studentslearn to be kind, patient, and caring to theirclassmate which, in turn, helps them buildbetter friendships. When students can have these characteristicsand relationships the school environment willgreatly improve as well.
  6. 6. 3. It’s not time consuming(thank God!) Implementing character education inyour class doesn’t have to be a big deal,it can be a simple five-minute lesson onwhy saying “Please” and “Thank You” isimportant. Or discussing what is means tocare or respect someone.
  7. 7. 4. It can help change theworld!!!!!!!!!!!! Though this may seem like an overstatement, is itreally? Yes-It is so important that you areacademically teaching your students but whenyou teach them character as well you are aidingthe future politicians, teachers, doctors, bankers, salesmen, and societal workers in general!!!! Having children that display this necessarycharacter will undoubtedly shape the future forthe better!
  8. 8. Sound Important Enough?! Yeah I think so, too. So make certain that you teachcharacter education in your classroomsbecause you never know how yourstudents are going to shape the world.
  9. 9. Role of Technology Teaching character education doesn’thave to be technologically based, but itcan be. For Example: I made a WebQuest aboutanti-bullying for this class. But as a teacher you can also make itmore socially interactive as well. It’s really up to you, as a teacher, howyou want to include technology inteaching character education
