CHAPTER 09
THE GREATEST SECRET
Think of Krishna, become His devotee, worship Him &
offer your respects to Him
This way you will go back to Him
LESSON-05
WHAT IF SOMEBODY IS VERY IMPURE, UNCULTURED OR
DEGRADED? CAN HE BECOME DEVOTEE OF KRISHNA?
Yes. Even such person is purified by association with
Krishna if he sincerely comes to Krishna.
Thief meets the butter-thief
One Bhagavata speaker was reciting Krishna’s lilas
(pastimes), describing that Krishna, being highly
decorated with all jewels, is sent for tending the cows in
the forest of Vrindavan. There was a thief at that
meeting, and when he heard about Krsna, he thought,
"Why not go to Vrindavan and plan to catch this boy in
the forest with so many valuable jewels? I can go there
and catch the child and take all the jewels." That was the
thief's intention. He was serious, thinking, "I must find
out that boy. Then in one night I will become a
millionaire." And he went to Vrindavan. On the way, he
was constantlythinking, "I must see Krishna. I must see
Krishna." That anxiety, that eagerness made it possible
for him to see Krishna in Vrindavan. He saw Krishna in
the same way he was informed by the Bhagavata speaker.
Then he thought, "Oh you are such a nice boy, Krishna."
He began to flatter. He thought that by flattering he
would obtain the jewels. But then he proposed his real
business to Krishna. "May I take some of your
ornaments? You are so rich." "No no,My mother will
scold Me." said Krishna. And then by Krishna's
association the thief had already become purified. At last
Krishna said, "All right, you can take." But by then the
thief became a devotee of Krishna.
MORAL: Somehowor the other, we shouldcome in
contact with Krishna and then we will become purified.
Bhakti has a potencyto elevatethe most fallento the most
elevated platform.
This is evident from that fact that Srila Prabhupadatook
the message of Krishna to the West and created
revolution. The effect was so extra ordinary that people
from West, who had all kinds of bad habits and who had
never heard of Krishna before, became saintly devotees of
Krishna following all rules and regulations.
KRISHNA ADVISES EVERYONE TO PERFORM BHAKTI.
BUT HOW DOES ONE PERFORM BHAKTI?
Krishna says: “Engage your mind always in thinking of
Me, become My devotee, offer respects to Me and
worship Me. Being completelyabsorbed in Me, surely
you will come to Me.” This is how one can perform
bhakti and become Krishna Conscious.
Followingare the practical tips for becoming Krishna
Conscious.
 Coming to temple and seeing Krishna’s beautiful
form
 Chanting, singing and meditating on ‘Hare Krishna’
Maha-mantra
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna

 Eating Krishna’s prasadam(or the foodstuffs offered
to Krishna)
 Making friendship with Krishna’s devotees
 Reading from Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-
Bhagavatam
