MSG-3 policy. It provides
additional clarification
and guidelines on
development of
Corrosion Prevention
Control Programs
(CPCP).
MSG 3 Objective
0 To ensure realization of inherent safety and reliability
levels of the equipment
0 To restore safety and reliability to their inherent levels
when deterioration has occurred
0 To obtain the information necessary for the design
improvement of those items whose inherent reliability
proves inadequate
0 To accomplish these goals at minimum total cost, including
maintenance costs and the cost of residual failure

0 This is focused on the principle of grouping all
maintenance tasks that require frequent repetition under
a letter check (i.e. “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” Checks).

work packages having the disadvantage of a relatively long
maintenance ground time.

RCM • The Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concept refined the logic process leading to MSG- 3. MSG 3 Rev 1 • This was a refining of the original MSG-3 in order to make it user- friendlier. It led to the elimination of the Operating Crew Monitoring strategy in the original MSG-3 MSG 3 Rev 2 • This is a revision of the MSG-3 policy. It provides additional clarification and guidelines on development of Corrosion Prevention Control Programs (CPCP).
