Mission & Goals
The Portuguese Canoe Federation has as main objective to
promote and regulate the practice of canoeing in all its aspects
and specialties.
The organization of the competition, both in Portugal and
internationally, in this case through the preparation of national
teams in various specialties and ranks, in both sexes.
Until today, the Federation organized the annual national
championships, as well as 14 open tournaments that culminate
with a grand finale.
From 2007, and according to the new regulations, it promotes
Sprint, Slalom, Long Distance (Marathons and Ocean Kayak),
Kayak-Polo, Freestyle, and Kayaksurf Championships.
Beyond this aspect, lies to the Federation the training and
promotion of agents and to regulate the practice of canoeing in a
non-competitive aspect.

n Founded in 1979.
n A Federation with sportive & public utility.
n Total of 81 medals in its history, in World and Europe
Championships in the sprint and marathon challenges.
n Fernando Pimenta and Emanuel Silva were the first athletes
to win an Olympic medal for the Portuguese Canoeing in
London 2012.

Past 8 years activities
n Participation in World Cups, European Championships and
World Speed with its senior national team (38 medals won in
the last two Olympic cycles).
n Participation in European and World Championships with its
Junior Sprint National Team (under16 levels of training).
n Participation in international competitions.
n Organisation of the World Championship marathon in 2009 -
Crestuma, Vila Nova de Gaia, becoming one of the best
organizations to date, with over 600 athletes.

Past 8 years activities
n Organization of the European Sprint Championship of Juniors
and Under 23 in its High Performance Centre of Montemor-o-
Velho, in 2012, attended by 37 countries and over 1000
athletes in what was the first official competition of an
Olympic discipline in Portugal.
n Annual promotion of more than 30 national and regional
competitions in the different aspects of the sport spread
throughout the mainland and islands.
n Creation of a training center with a university residence in
Montemor-o-Velho, with capacity for more than 20 athletes in
permanent stage.

n Presence of 6 athletes, all they achieved Olympic
qualification.

n Reached half of the points of the whole entourage National.
