II. CURRENT EVENTS/HOT TOPICS- Students will be exposed to all types of Current Events and
Hot Topics throughout the year. These high interest themes will engage students while enhancing
the process of participating in respectful conversations, learning how to ask and respond to great
questions, and most importantly use a variety of sources.(primary and secondary)
III. Technology: 21st century education. Students will be expected to communicate, collaborate, and
publish Social Studies projects using digital media. Frequent exposure and participation in 21st
century activities will enhance, foster, and develop key skills to be successful in a globally
competitive information age. Students will be encouraged and challenged to use new types of digital
communication as well as teach skills that they already have mastered.

Grading: Tests: 25% Quizzes: 25% Homework: 10% Participation: 10% Projects/Class Work: 30% (Projects, Cooperative
Learning Activities, Classroom Assignments,Extended Learning, Hot Topics (group and individual grades)
Classroom Rules: Cobra Code – Cooperative, On Task, Prepared,Respectful/Responsible, Accountable
Homework Information:
Written homework is given a minimum of twice weekly. Classroom notes, materials, and readings should be
reviewed nightly. Full credit is given when work is fully complete and on time.
Class Work: Students are encouraged and expected to participate in all classroom activities and discussions.
Class discussions will enhance collaboration and respectful communication.
EXTRA HELP is always available and may be requested by teacher, student, or parent.
