    2. 2. Introduction <ul><li>Did you know that we generate 4 pounds of trash every day?? That results in over 250 million tons of garbage every year!!! </li></ul><ul><li>This means that sooner,not later, our landfills will be overflowing which means BIG problems for our environment. </li></ul><ul><li>Are you ready to do something about this? Are you ready to get your peers involved? </li></ul><ul><li>LETS GET GOING….. </li></ul>

Purpose <ul><li>By completing this project you will achieve the following goals </li></ul><ul><li>Use the internet and other classroom resources to explore the topic </li></ul><ul><li>Learn new and relevant information about </li></ul><ul><li>Use a graphic organizer to record all of your facts and ideas </li></ul><ul><li>With your group create a persuasive poster </li></ul><ul><li>Participate in a group presentation to the class </li></ul><ul><li>HAVE FUN BY EXPLORING NEW WAYS TO LEARN!!! </li></ul>

Question/Task <ul><li>Planet Protectors, how can you help protect our environment? </li></ul><ul><li>Your task is create a poster that convinces students at Kimbrough to participate in the Planet Protectors program both at school and at home. You will need to do research to get some strong facts for your poster that convinces your audience. You will then present your project to the class and possibly other classrooms. </li></ul>

Background <ul><li>For the past two years you have participated in </li></ul><ul><li>Aquatic Adventures and have learned about how your actions effect the world that we live in. </li></ul><ul><li>This year, as fourth graders, you have taken on the role of running the Planet Protectors Program here at Kimbrough. </li></ul><ul><li>You have noticed that not all the classrooms here seem to care as much as you would like. As a result the program isn’t being as effective as it could be. </li></ul><ul><li>We have talked as a class about fixing the problem, now here is your opportunity… </li></ul>

Group Process <ul><li>Now that each member of your team has become an expert from one aspect, we're ready to combine what each of you has learned into your Group Poster and Presentation. </li></ul><ul><li>You must work as a group to incorporate all of the relevant information into a poster that convinces Kimbrough students how important it is to recycle. </li></ul><ul><li>Then you must sign up for and prepare a 2-3 minute presentation to the class about your project. </li></ul><ul><li>Be sure to check out the rubric. Use this rubric to guide how you do your work. Remember you are working as a team of Planet Protectors . </li></ul>
    14. 14. Real World Feedback <ul><li>And you thought you were finished! Researching the best ways Kimbrough students can help protect the environment took a lot of work but there is a whole lot more you can do. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask other teachers if you can present your project to their classes. </li></ul><ul><li>Talk to you neighbors & family about how they can help. </li></ul><ul><li> </li></ul>Get involved locally There are beach cleanups that you, your family and friends can volunteer at.
