1. Mrs. Roussell’s Classroom Newsletter
Aug. 23rd – Aug. 27th
This Week’s Assignments
Math – We will start Math with multiplication and arrays. Students will be looking at
things that come in arrays to help them understand the factors of a particular number
and how multiplication can help us.
Writing – We will be discussing writing workshop and what it looks like. We will also
be talking about why we write and where we see it. Students will get the chance to
decorate their Writing Folders (don’t forget to bring in pictures, stickers, etc. for
this).
Spelling – Students will be completing their first word sort for fun. We will do this
word sort as a whole class so everyone will have the same words. Again, this is just a
fun word sort to get them used to our new way of spelling.
Reading – Our focus this week will be talking about reading workshop. We will discuss
the classroom library, what reading workshop looks like, and how good readers think
while reading. We will begin the book Because of Winn Dixie as a whole class where we
will really focus in on our thinking as readers. We will be predicting, sequencing, and
making connections.
Science - We will begin a unit on rocks and soil.
