Assessment and
Reporting Forum
In 2013 the curriculum has changed from the Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS) to the
Australian Curriculum (AusVELS).
New domains or subjects are being introduced over the next
three years. Some of the domains have the same names and
dimensions (which are now called strands), whereas other
domains and strand names have changed.
In 2013 the four domains being assessed
and reported on are:
English,
Mathematics
Science
Humanities -History.
It is only mandated that Science and
Humanities are reported on from Grade 3
onwards.
Reports will look similar to previous
years reports with the solid dot
indicating a students current
achievement level.
With an A-E rating scale with a ‘C’
being at the expected year level.A
‘B’mark is 6 months ahead and an ‘A’
indicates 12 months or more ahead of
the standard.
In the past there has been an indication
of the progress made over the past
twelve months, however this will not
occur to next year.

learning
What the school will do to support the
learning
What you can do at home to help

Teachers are currently working to
developing their understanding of
AusVELS. This semester they have used
the VELS to make their judgements and
have used a prescribed table fron
DEECD to convert them to AusVELS.
Teachers spend a significant amount of
time writing reports with their teams on
analysing students work samples and
moderating on teacher judgements across
grade levels.
They then use this data to allocate a
progression point which leads to their
mark.
Open communication between
students,parents and teachers is vital to
best understand not only what children
have achieved but,more importantly,
what there is to be learnt.
