• 1. acid rain anddeforestation | causes, effects and impacts
Luis Paulo Carneiro & Ricardo Coqueiro
Wizard University
#seminar 01| Sao Paolo, August, 26th-10
• 2. Acid rain
By Luiz Paulo CARNEIRO
ChemicalEngineer, specializing in Environmental
• 3. How Acid RainWorks
Acid rain occurs mostly in the Northern Hemisphere
Acid rain, also known as acid deposition, is caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)from power plants, cars and factories.
SO2 / NOx + H2O-> H2SO4 / HNO3
• 4. The pH of Acid Rain
Express the acidity of acid rain using the pH scale.
The scale defines a solution's acidity, neutrality or alkalinity based on its concentration of hydrogen ions. ( 0 – 14 pH)
Acids – pH > 7,0
Most life is comfortable at a near- neutral pH (7,0
• 5. The pH of Acid Rain
Acidrain - pH of 5.0 orless. Mostaciddeposition ranges from pH 4.3 to 5.0
• 6. The Effects of Acid Rain
• 7. The Effects of Acid Rain
Ex: Oldbuildings, monumentstombstones, automotivepaint
• 8. The Effects of Acid Rain
Effects for our health
Sulfate (SO4), nitrate (NO3) particulates of dry deposition can cause asthma, bronchitis and heart problems.
The NOx in acid deposition also reacts with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to form ground-level ozone (O3). Ozone, or smog, aggravates and weakens the respiratory system.
• 9. DEFORESTATION
By Ricardo COQUEIRO
Administrator , MBA in Human Resources
• 10. What is Deforestation?
Is a process of cutting trees to make spaces frees for pastures, industries, households of the ever-increasing human population;
• 11. What are the Causes of Deforestation?
• 12. What are the Causes of Deforestation?
To Create Grazing Land
Used for Fuel
To make highways and roads
For Agriculture
Urban and Construction
Clearing forests for oil and mining exploitation;
Wildfires
Acid rain
• 13. What are the Effects of Deforestation?
• 14. What are the Effects of Deforestation?
Erosion of Soil
Disruption of the Water Cycle
Loss of Biodiversity
of Soil
Climate Change
Flooding and Drought
• 15. Deforestation in the World
• 16. Deforestation in the Brazil
Rondonia, Brazil
• 17. Deforestation and Global Warming
• 18. Deforestation and Global Warming
20% of global warming is caused by deforestation
• 19. Thankyou!
