In this webinar, we started the discussion with a review of wireless fundamental, understanding several concept that engineer need to know.
We discuss brief about ubiquiti itself, and their airmax products. and and the end of presentation we talk about parameters on ubiquiti airmax web configuration.

Wired communication
● Using physical media to connect tx and rx
○ Metal: copper
○ Glass: fiber optic
● Generally requires 2 cables:
○ One for TX
○ One for RX
● Data must travel inside the medium
● Not flexible. Cannot move devices easily or far
● Faster data rate
● Very stable connection (low error rate)

What is wireless communication?
● Communication without physical connection between TX and RX -> no wire
● Make user more flexible and portable
● Easy to deploy
● Data travel through freespace
● Need to have common standard
● Need to understand how wireless works
● Slower datarate
●

Simplex vs duplex communication
● Simplex: one way communication
○ Broadcast: TV, radio
○ streaming
● Duplex: two way communication.
TX and RX exchanging data
○ Full-duplex: tx and rx exchanging data in the
same time
Ex. telephone, switched network
○ Half-duplex: tx and rx takes turn when
exchanging data
Ex. handy talky, wifi, hub-network

What is wave?
● Wave: a vibration that travels through a
medium from one location to another location
● Wave properties: frequency (Hz), lamda (m),
period (sec)
● Amplitude determine how loud the signal is
● The wave we use for communication:
electromagnetic wave
● Electromagnetic wave is generated by
oscillation of electricity and magnetism
●

Channel, width, signal strength, coverage
● We use different frequency (channel) to distinguish communication
● TX and RX must use same frequency for communication
● Some communication requires wider frequency to be used -> this is known as
channel-width or bandwidth
● Protocol will specify frequency, Channel-width to be used in communication. E.g.
802.11 protocol uses 20MHz width
● Higher amplitude -> Stronger signal -> can travel far -> cover more area

Interference
● Interference is a phenomenon in which two waves
superpose to form a resultant wave of greater,
lower, or the same amplitude
● Can be constructive or destructive -> destroy signal
● Happens when 2 sources using same/near
frequency
● Tips: use non-overlapping signal. E.g. channel

What is Ubiquiti
● A network devices manufacturer, Based in USA
● Product group:
○ Airmax: for wireless backbone
○ Unifi: for enterprise solution: wireless, cctv, iphone
○ EdgeMAX: for wired communication
○ AirFiber: for high capacity backhaul
○ solarMAX: solar panel
